Hunter Coppervein is the District 2 Career who is in it to win the Games and is willing to kill to do it... until he sees the quiet determination of the District 9 girl and begins to realize that being victor is not the most important thing at stake in the Hunger Games.
Echo Farshire is the orphaned District 9 girl who refuses to become the Capitol's entertainment by taking another tribute's life--even when her older brother Marcus is also reaped and would give anything to get a chance to kill her.
Twenty-four tributes are released into an arena where nothing can be certain: not alliances, not the arena, not promises, not life itself. As tributes begin to die and the number of deaths between the victor and victory decreases, what is at stake becomes even more important to each person that survives. And only one will see the other side.
