The 99th Hunger Games wasn't supposed to mean anything to Yunho. It was something he didn't care for, something he (and many others in District 12) signed up for more tesserae. But then Changmin's name gets picked during the reaping, and suddenly it meant everything to him that he volunteered as tribute. For Yunho, survival is his only goal. To win the Games in order to give Changmin a better life where neither of them would have to starve ever again.
The 99th Hunger Games wasn't supposed to mean anything to Jaejoong. It was something he trained for all his life, something he (and many others in District 4) signed up to bring pride to their families, to serve his purpose. But then he meets a boy from District 12 at the Training Centre, and suddenly winning becomes his only purpose. For Jaejoong, winning is his only goal.
A chance encounter at the Training Centre causes their lives to intersect. Another encounter in the Arena causes their lives to fully, completely, and inexorably intertwine when the Gamemakers decide to put them together to follow a narrative. Yunho and Jaejoong must work together to survive. If they don't, it's not the other tributes that they're going to have to worry about; it's the Capitol.
