McCoy had been hiding in his office, pretending to have a lot of reports to write. The damned Vulcan kept coming by Sickbay, persistently. The most surprising thing was when the First Officer didn't make an excuse to run away from the regular check-ups that he hated so much.

"It may be in our best interest to hail the vessel for assistance, sir." He held up a hand to still whatever Jim might have said as the Alpha turned towards him, his brown eyes catching the Captain's. "It will be of no benefit to fire or flee, Captain. They will catch us and assume we are fleeing for an altogether different reason. If I am not mistaken, that is a Vulcan war ship."
There was silence, tense between them both despite the noise that filtered around them, as Jim regarded his First Officer, his blue eyes narrowed in disbelief.
"Vulcan's don't go to war."
