He couldnt let himself be distracted by a fine pair of legs no matter how much she seemed to be laughing at him with those emerald green eyes and that smirk- damn it he was already distracted. Jim wrote a romance novel just to prove he could. Then someone leaked it on the public Starfleet server, and suddenly his embarrassingly smutty and sentimental Human/Vulcan love story is all over campus. Luckily for Jim, no one knows that he’s the author. Unluckily for Jim, someone forwarded the novel to the staff of the Vulcan embassy. Now, every Vulcan in San Francisco is reassessing the logical merits of taking Human bondmates.
Spock reads a Human/Vulcan romance novel because he can hardly avoid it. Suddenly, he is consumed by the need to locate the author, ascertain their wellbeing, and instruct them in the way of Vulcan mating bonds. Luckily for Spock, it doesn't take long to identify the author as Jim Kirk. Unluckily for Spock, Jim is unconscious and surrounded by interested Vulcans who also read the book.

Nyota glances at her idly from her seated position. They’re out sunbathing on a lazy afternoon before class, surrounded by the gentle hum of cadets bustling about.
Nyota drums her fingers against her uniformed thigh. “Who?”
“Your soulmate, Ny.” Her roommate shifts upwards and props her weight on her hands. “You don’t wonder where they are? What they’re doing?”
“I-” Nyota pauses and adjusts the pad splayed across her lap. “I guess I don’t really think about it.”
“Well, you should.”

Summary
Spock tells Kirk about his planet long before they go. He is logical and straightforward, listing the objective facts, but Kirk knows what he means. When Spock says, “The temperature is significantly higher than Earth’s,” he means that sometimes the Enterprise gets cold, and he misses home. “A dry heat,” he assures Kirk, and Kirk knows it means that Spock can’t stand humidity. “The sands were always red,” and that’s why it’s Spock’s favorite color. “Near my home there was a Korian tree, and it was only in bloom five days a year,” so Spock sends a communication to his mother every year on those days and asks how the tree is doing. It’s a very beautiful picture that Spock paints with facts and numbers.
When Spock asks Kirk about Earth, about Iowa, all Kirk can describe are the stars.

Side story to Into the Deeps. I don't think you need to have read 'Into the Deeps' to make sense of this story. However, if you have not read it I will quickly introduce some of the characters here.
Avarak - Vulcan son of Healer Sordd. His mother died before the events of 'Into the Deeps'
Sordd - Vulcan Healer, widowed. Remarried a human wife, Mimi. Brother of Sarek (I know its not canon, none of this is!)
Mimi - Human, married to Sordd. Relocated to Vulcan.

The Kahs-wan, or Vulcan maturity rite, was a traditional survival test of adulthood for adolescent Vulcans. The basis for the Kahs-wan was to survive ten days without food, water, or weapons in The Vulcan's Forge.
This ritual was undertaken when Vulcan children reached the age of seven, equivalent of eleven Earth years of age.
Amanda, Sarek and Spock will make a short appearance at the end of the story.I own nothing to do with Star Trek in anyway. No copyright infringements intended.
