AJ has been through hell and back in her short lifetime, she had lost family, gained family then lost some more, before she decided that she refused to let other people be the cause of any more destruction in her life. she was gonna take her fate into her own hands and if the universe couldn't deal with that then tough. she was getting to formula 1 without losing anyone else, and nothing was gonna stop her. why? because she had made a promise, and AJ NEVER broke her promises.
she didn't need to add to her circle, yes it was small but the less people you cared about the less people could be taken from you. she didn't need to make new friends and she definitely didn't need anyone finding out anything about her life, there are 2 people in the world who know any considerable amount of her story, and she was one of them. she didn't need the pity of her fellow drivers.
Daniel Ricciardo had never met a person he didn't click with in his life, he was a master at bringing people out of their shells. just look at what he had accomplished with max, he was not about to let AJ defeat him. the kid was just quiet and shy right? that's what he believed too until he began to notice the small details.

Elizabeth has recently endured the months-long stalking of a neighbor, culminating in said neighbor forcing entry into her and her best friend Alix's apartment, drugging and raping Elizabeth. Four months, afterward, Connor arrives in New York. He walks into a coffee shop and is waited on by Elizabeth. He's taken with her. Alix sees it too, and, as the shift supervisor, fixes it so Connor can take Elizabeth out.
Connor and Elizabeth begin dating. When Elizabeth is forced to testify in a second trial for her attacker, Connor arranges private security for her and Alix. Connor is kidnapped by her attacker and held as leverage to prevent her from testifying. Connor's trauma throws a wrench into their relationship and Elizabeth ends up falling for her bodyguard and relocating to Chicago. At least two sequels forthcoming.
