Lauren Faust awakens to a body that isn't hers, her only companions consisting entirely of reincarnations of the main characters from a cartoon she washed her hands of a decade ago. Characters from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Except... last time she checked, not even Equestria's prisons were so dark, cold, and gloomy. And her character designs weren't that realistic.
Naturally, she has questions, questions that the ponylike creatures keep refusing to answer. There's something else going on here, something that her caretakers are trying to hide from her. Something that Lauren Faust is going to uncover... for better or worse.

Shining Armor’s wedding anniversary is coming up, and the stallion has already gotten his nost noteworthy gift early; not being utterly useless in a crisis anymore. But unlike most wedding anniversary gifts, this one comes with strings attached.
Strings like the safety and security of the Crystal Empire being thoroughly destroyed, the loss of his status as a pony to the invaders who did the destroying, an outbreak of a cousin to the pathogen that caused him to lose his equinity, and additional voices in his head; some imaginary, some not so much.
Have I mentioned that the Crystal Empire's still being invaded? And the Elements of Harmony — his L.S.B.F.F. included — are nowhere to be found, over a month into the crisis?

"Is this about their latest SecUnit rescue subject?" ART asked. Nosy fucker; I should have known it would have bullied the other bot pilot for details.
"SecUnit extraction," I corrected, to be pedantic. Or is it pediatric? Whatever, I wasn't going to ask.
"So it is about that project?" ART plowed forward. "I am not surprised they want your input. You are one of the more valuable information sources they have."
"I just feel like they're setting themselves up for failure," I admitted. "Their newly freed SecUnits keep trying to self-destruct."
There was a .5 second pause. In the feed, it felt like an eternity. "I see," ART said, not sounding so smug anymore. "Yes, that is distressing."

In our private feed, Gurathin sounded…angry, perhaps more so than I’ve ever heard him before. He hadn’t moved, though. And his face remained in its normal “I am currently at rest, but being an asshole is always an option” configuration. He hadn’t subvocalized, and he still appeared to be staring vaguely in the direction of a particularly verdant plant biome. The rest of the PresAux team carried on their human chatter, oblivious.
