Summary
"We were so worried, we heard you—" Ragatha starts, and then looks up. She meets Jax's gaze dead-on, and goes silent. Tears brim in the corner of her eye. Her hand flies up to cover her mouth. He can't tell if the look on her face is relief or fear.
Gangle's staring at him like she's seen a ghost. Pomni slowly raises to her feet, brows furrowed. She winces as every movement jars her wavering form.
Cowered on the floor, panting, confused and disoriented, with everyone standing above him, taller than him… it reminds Jax of something deeply unpleasant. They're all staring at him. They're all seeing him.
Jax knows they're not going to like what they see.
His breath quickens until his head is spinning, and he feels like he's going to vomit. He forces himself upwards with a frustrated cry, swaying in place, and then turns and bolts towards his room as fast as he can.
"NO!" Pomni screams.

Summary
Nobody really believed that unabstraction was possible. Nobody...except for Pomni.
Jax's words rang in her head every day. "I don't wanna go." His final plea, his last desperate grasp at life. It didn't matter what he'd done, he deserved to live just as much as they did. She wasn't going to let it be ignored.
Now that her plans have worked out better than anyone could have expected...Jax has to grapple with the fact that he's conscious again. Not only that, but every horrible thing he's done is getting a second chance to eat at him.
All that's left for him is a group of people who care for him, and a lot of apologies that need to be made.

But when Caine mistakes her situation for something he can fix, he searches through the circus’s archived files and accidentally restores Jax from his original brain scan — the version of him from the day he first entered the circus.

Summary
Husk hovers in the hall, obscured by the half-closed door, and watches Angel stare at his reflection above the sink. He pinches his cheeks, examines the softened edge of his jaw. He rolls up the hem of his borrowed shirt and turns this way and that in the mirror, studying his waistline. He pinches the thin layer of cushion around his hips like he seeks to dig his fingernails in and rip the flesh off. He grimaces and goes to turn on the shower.
Husk slinks back to bed before he can be caught spying. Angel shows up later with minty breath and a fake smile. He slides under the covers beside Husk, cozying up to steal his body heat. Husk slings an arm around Angel’s clothed waist and buries his nose in the crook of his neck, inhaling the scent of soap and faint cigarette smoke. “G’night, beautiful.” Angel hums sleepily in response.
It isn’t until many, many months later that Husk pinpoints this night as the shit-stirrer. He was so distracted by the puffy eyes and dour mood that it never occurred to him that Angel didn’t eat dinner.

Summary
Everything has fallen apart all around jax again. This time, he didn't purposefully sabotage it, but he's sure it's all his fault. Caine is dead, everyone is hurting, the circus is falling apart... it's all too much. Everything is too much.
He runs through the halls, devoid of color, to go hide in his room until its over, or until he abstracts, whichever comes first. But Pomni just can't leave him alone, can she? She's going to mock him, just like she did in that nightmare Caine showed him. Just like they all did.- - -
Jax finally, completely breaks. Pomni guides him through his panic attack, slowly breaking down his defenses. Except, this time, she doesn't laugh. And she's far gentler handling him and his vulnerability than that nightmare had made him believe.

Pomni threaded herself between Ragatha's legs and settled in front of them. Gangle's face instantly lit up, her ribbons fluttering at the sight, "Kitty!"Gangle dropped to her knees and held out a ribbon, letting Pomni either come to her or reject the attention. The hall was quiet as Pomni considered Gangle. Ragatha could almost hear the gears turning in her head as the seconds stretched.
Pomni, having made up her mind, moved closer into Gangle's space and earned a delighted noise from the woman as her ribbon inched forward to pet at Pomni's furry head.
"What's up with this?" Zooble said, their voice laced with confusion. "Did Caine give Pomni a therapy cat or something?"
Ragatha tapped her index fingers together, eyes fixed on Gangle and Pomni, "Uh, that's Pomni."
Gangle froze and Zooble's stared.
"WHAT?" Gangle shrieked, her eyes locked onto the odd little cat.
