Her parents and siblings had always emphasized the importance of first impressions. Someone’s first impression of her could affect how they saw her for the rest of her life. because of this, she fussed over her appearance for way longer than normal and spent the better part of 15 minutes rehearsing her big sister’s formula for how to make friends.
"Making friends is simple. Just introduce yourself, stick out your hand, and ask them something. If they want to be your friend, they’ll shake your hand, simple as that". A simple formula, but an effective one, as her sister put it."With the help of a simple formula, Emi tries to make some new friends at her new school.

Recently, UA high school has started a new program where students who show heroic potential but have behavioral problems, childhood trauma, or are otherwise emotionally disturbed can come join the UA high school hero course and learn to be heroes (and maybe get their crap together in the process)! Of course, this new class needed a teacher, so Shouta Aizawa volunteered to teach these kids the ways of heroism and emotional stability.
15 new students! 15 new quirks! 15 new flavors of childhood trauma! what could possibly go wrong?
(A lot, as it turns out, can possibly go wrong)This essentially serves as an introduction to my MHA Au and some of the original characters in it. though you don't need to read it to understand any of the other stories, it provides some useful context.

She had been asleep for at least 10 minutes after the bell rang, and she had no idea if her brother could bike home at that time. The thought of her brother making it home before her gave her a burst of adrenaline, and once she saw her house, she practically fell off her skateboard trying to get to the front door. Her heart dropped to the floor when she saw her brother’s bicycle, and she practically threw her front door open…
…Only to find her mother sitting at the kitchen table typing something on her laptop, and her brother sitting on the couch in the living room reading a comic book."
Kaede's always in a rush to get home after school, and one day, her teachers notice and try to get her help.

"“I just…” she paused, as if she knew what she wanted to say, but didn’t have the words. “Hitoshi, I have a question. If I ask it, will you get upset with me? Also, don’t lie to me, I want to know the truth.”
“No, I won't get upset. What’s your question?”
She looked away from him for a moment, seemingly sorting out her thoughts. After a moment, she sucked in a deep breath, and looked him in the eye, her expression a mix of anxiety and shame.
“Hitoshi… was I a bad kid? Did I deserve any of the stuff that happened to me?”"Hitoshi is awoken in the middle of the night by Eri, who is thinking about the bad things that have happened to her. Hitoshi comforts her, and the two of them have a chat.

"The empty house felt unbearable for Emu, so she called up Nene and Nene came by. The two of them chatted for a bit before watching some movie adaptations of their favorite musicals. They were watching the movie version of Hamilton, when out of nowhere, Emu asked,
“Hey Nene, you mind if I braid your hair?” Nene felt the question was kind of random, but she replied with
“Sure, I don’t mind.” Nene turned to face away from Emu, and Emu got to work with her hair. Nene often did her own hair, so she wasn’t used to the feeling of someone else doing things to it, but she was curious how Emu would do with her hair. The way Emu moved her fingers through Nene’s hair felt nice, and she liked listening to Emu hum along with the movie as she worked.
“How did you get so good at this?” Nene asked Emu. Without pausing her braiding, Emu replied,
“Me and my sister used to do this all the time before she left. We would stay up and watch movies or musicals like this.”"
Emu's older sister leaves home to go to college. Emu, being unable to cope with the loneliness, calls up Nene. they chat, Nene gets her hair braided, and Emu has a good cry about her sister.
