He was the one who would carry the burdens of everyone else around him, while locking his own away in a dark corner, and never once complain.
And Chris knew for a fact, the only reason Martin didn’t trade places with him when Diego dragged him away and locked him within his own mind was because his brother couldn’t work miracles.
But Chris didn’t think he could share this burden with Martin.

When Eda Clawthorne finally trudged her way through the Owl House’s front door, her plans for the afternoon were simply to down a glass of apple blood, make herself lunch, and see how long she could nap before King or Luz inevitably needed her help with some quirky misadventure. Those plans most certainly did not include Hooty depositing a half-dead, very familiar teenager on the couch right as she’d been about to start on frying up something for lunch.
“Holy Titan,” she cursed, taking in the injuries that littered the Golden Guard’s prone form and the little cracked palisman in his hand. “What in the world happened?”
For the moment, at least, it seemed like lunch would have to wait.
(Or the one in which Hunter gets accidentally adopted and re-evaluates his entire life, Eda acquires a new kid and also definitely isn’t still crushing on Raine Whispers, Luz struggles with bard magic and teaches Hunter about pancakes, King is adorable as always, and Hooty is… well, Hooty is Hooty. They'd always considered having more kids when Manny was well. Someone a little closer to Luz's age who would understand her, and could be a lifelong friend. It never turned out like that, becoming the last in a long list of unfinished dreams and changed plans as the reality of their situation caught up to them. Camila knew it was for the best, she barely had enough time to look after Luz like a girl her age needed after what she'd gone through, but maybe her heart had never really closed the door on the possibility.
Whatever tentative rekindling of the prospect she'd felt at the thought of raising Vee and Luz as sisters once her daughter finally found her way home was utterly unprepared for what Luz would bring with her. Camila wasn't sure she was equipped to help Luz with everything she'd gone through in the Demon Realm, let alone look after the five otherworldly refugees staying in her home.
Manny would've definitely gotten a kick out of watching her try though.

She startles awake to the sound of Hooty yelling, abruptly sucking her out of the half-asleep state she had been in. She grabs her glyphs on instinct, one of the stacks of paper she leaves around her room for easy access.
When she finds Hooty, he has the door wide open and the body of a teenage boy slumped against the doorframe. A boy who is swathed in red from blood and grasping onto his staff like it’s the only thing keeping him from face planting.
And as Luz walks closer, the light of the moon catches on platinum blonde hair and she suddenly realizes that it’s The Golden Guard in the doorway.
