Summary
By all means, he was a droid. Expendable, monotonous and compliant. He should not have been able to discern the panic in his power-module as the threat of deactivation loomed near, and he should not have felt a desire to live more than he did to serve.
Or,
Prowl is a constructed drone, serving obediently under Praxus and its enforcers. A near-death experience leaves him with undesired sentience, and a mission lending him to Optimus Prime faces him with far too many loose ends.

Summary
This is heavily inspired by, though not a one-to one recreation, of Fallout New Vegas' final DLC, Lonesome Road.
The Great War ended in the near-total annihilation of Cybertron. Metroplex and Trypticon did battle, and their mutual destruction reduced the world to a post-apocalyptic hellhole. Two hundred years later, the surviving Autobots and Decepticons have banded together, for healing, companionship, and survival.
Peace remains tenuous, at best. Energon, medical supplies, and more are running low. Both sides have sent scouts into a dangerous stretch of territory known as the Longest Road to find what remains. None have returned.
Prowl, Jazz, and Blaster along with two of Blaster's cassettes have volunteered to go on the latest mission. What they find will could be healing and redemption for all... or their undoing.
Also posted Chapter One at Wattpad, but it wasn't getting much traction there.

When a series of odd occurrences make it clear that danger is brewing, the Autobots have no choice but to consider dire options. Thankfully, Jazz and the rest of Spec Ops are used to impossible odds.
While they attempt to bring home Decepticon secrets, Prowl realizes that the 'Cons aren't the only thing that plagues his mind, and circumstances place him right in the middle of an impossible choice. He prides himself on his rationality and pragmatism, but when faced with what he truly wants, no scheming or manipulating will help.
There is duty, but there is also Jazz. He isn't sure when the the two became such opposing forces in his mind, but when push comes to shove, he has always known where his loyalties lie.
(or; Prowl has been running away for a very long time. He realizes that some things are worth taking a leap of faith for)

Bluestreak is lonely. It's hard, being one of the only Praxians left. His adoptive creators try their best to be with him, but Jazz and Prowl are busy running the war, and the Decepticons aren't making it any easier.
But then, while recovering from some injuries, he gets a strange--and wonderful--message that another Praxian wants to exchange data-letters with him! Finally, he can have a steady friend and someone that will understand what it's like to have lost you entire home.
And his new penpal totally isn't Thundercracker, who isn't also painfully lonely and feeling particularly doubtful about the Decepticon cause. No, no, it's not Thundercracker, because that would be ridiculous. Right?
