She was still crouched there with one wrist limp in his hand, her mouth open wide.
“So? How can you see me?”
She gathered herself and snapped, “More importantly, what the fuck?”
He rolled his eyes at her, “That’s a pretty open question, ‘what the fuck’ to what?”

It started when Tessa Gray found a copy of the 27th Edition of the Shadowhunter’s Codex on her table, bookmark in the middle, but towards the end.
Out of curiosity, she opened it.
“At heart, though, the Nephilim’s and the Downworlders’ aims have aligned. We have all wanted peace. Everyone has, at root, wanted peace. Until the Circle.
“Hodge Starkweather, the only son of a long-standing Nephilim family, and his followers disrupted the Accords.”
Tessa read, eyes barely registering what was before her: A Codex from a world where Hodge Starkweather had led the Circle, and Valentine Morgenstern had defeated him.

Alec immediately regrets the instinctive shift of his feathers, knowing how many Downworld throats have been slit open on nephilim wings, knowing how many times Magnus and his council must have seen that happen. But what’s done is done and moving them back would do nothing. Alec comes to a halt at a respectful distance from the High Warlock and waits. Most of Davey’s life as a prince was easy.
He had his duties, sure. Lessons to take, ceremonies to attend, meetings to sit in on. Most of them were at least fairly easy, if not rivetingly interesting.
In fact, he liked the lessons. He’d always enjoyed reading, and learning in general, and he’d never minded spending his mornings tucked away in the library or with a tutor, learning history or studying policies or practicing his mapmaking or whatever else he was told to do. He didn’t hate meetings as much as either of his siblings, either, although they did get pretty boring, pretty often. Ceremonies weren’t the most fun, but they were tolerable.
In fact, there was really only one part of his life that he hated without a doubt.
Sword fighting lessons.
