Summary
Children were filled with questions. They are born into a world they knew nothing of, where even the simplest things were enough to amplify their curiosity. Their minds were also simple; they only wished for answers. Even the shortest, briefest answers were enough to assuage their thoughts.
For a woman brimmed with secrecy, some answers were best left unsaid. But for a woman with a child to protect, to care for, to teach everything there is to know about the vast expense of the universe, answers were often required.

That day, a part of Seele was telling her to not let Bronya go.
Bronya pulled away, a gentle smile playing on her lips. She tenderly stroked the edges of Seele’s jaw. “I’ll see you soon.”
That strange uneasiness came back, and her next words came as a shock to even herself. “Come back to me soon.”
Since when was she so needy?
“Missing me already?” She pressed their lips together, the movement so brief, it only left Seele longing for more.

The coy words spilled from the lips of an electric ghost. If it had only been a taunt, a way for Kafka to get under Himeko's skin in the way only she knew how, perhaps it wouldn't have affected her so strongly. Yet Himeko senses there's something deeper behind Kafka's casual approach, something missing; if Himeko didn't know better, she would have thought Kafka was greeting a stranger.

Once she makes planetfall, she finds herself in a bar where an enigmatic young woman is singing, setting off a series of events that will shape the woman she becomes.

Summary
“Did she—I mean, I shouldn’t ask, I know this, but…” Serval’s smile falters for just the briefest of moments. She looks down to Bronya’s feet, as though the act of staring her in the eyes would be too much to bear. “Did your mom say anything? About me?”
She sounds so hopeful. There’s a lump that gathers in her throat. She’s suddenly glad that Serval isn’t looking at her, that she can’t see the guilt in Bronya’s expression. No, part of her wants to say. But she'd said nothing to me either, so maybe neither of us meant much of anything to her after all.
( Seele helps Bronya when Bronya can't help herself. Serval looks at them and can't help but to be reminded of better times. )
