I do not believe in prophetic dreams. There is no reaching beyond the veil, and there are no gods to send me guidance while I’m trying to rest.
And, most definitely, there are no strange men crying for help in the middle of the night. No one is actually stuck in what looks like a submarine that is slowly filling with what I’m hoping is not blood. Even if I’ve been seeing it every night for the last couple of weeks.
I try to ignore it, at least in my waking hours. I somewhat succeed in it.
…That is, until I see a suspiciously submarine-shaped blob of please-please-please-let-it-not-be-blood through the Hail Mary’s telescope.
Or: the Hail Mary finds the SM-13 on the way to Erid. Everything would be fine — if not for the second, much bigger (and suspiciously… toothy) thing floating in space next to it.

Summary
Footsteps and shuffling outside the door break Grace out of the uneasy doze he’d fallen into after being shoved into the cell. If he’d known he was going to be detained, he never would have steered the Hail Mary toward the mysterious cobbled-together-looking station hanging in loose orbit above the tiny dark planet.
Blinking to bring himself to full alertness, he stares dully forward as bodies approach. He knows by now that he can't understand these people. What's the point in saying anything?
“Hey,” a voice says, low and rough. It’s a new voice, different from the ones who chased him down and threw him in a cell. Grace ignores it. So they're mimicking him now? Great.
The new person clears their throat, then coughs like it was painful. He hears them muttering something, and a more familiar voice – one of the guards – growls back. Grace listens with everything he has, tuning all the xenolinguistic skills he's learned working with Rocky into the problem, and he still can't tell what the heck they're saying.
“Hey,” the new voice says again. “Ai, uh...ai herdjer talkin' oldstyle.”
“...What?” Grace tumbles to his feet and stumbles forward. “What did you say?”

“COI,” Simon growled, bringing one knee up and shifting his weight, struggling to remember how to stand. The ground bucked beneath him, sending him onto all fours, the impact jarring every nerve. “Not done feeding me to it, keep chewing and spitting.”
He gagged on his next words, choking back a sob. “'M’not a person, am I? Just a machine to you. Patch me up, send me in again..." Every muscle seized in a violent, cramping tremor. His breath shook. Cold sank into his bones while his skin seared hot.
“I don’t know who this COI is,” Grace said evenly. A cough. A few deep, wheezing breaths. “Wow, you really did a number on me.”
“Rocky explain,” the alien said firmly, tapping Grace’s knee not too gently before turning back to Simon. “You in danger. You hurt. We hear distress call through wormhole. We help.”

Summary
His vision swims, refusing to focus, but he can make out a vaguely human sort of shape, all in red. It’s not the dark, threatening red of the ocean he’d been abandoned in. Instead, it’s overwhelmingly bright, a beacon, a promise of safety.
“You're alive.” Finally, he manages to blink away enough of the blood and general fatigue to recognize a man’s face within the red helmet. In the darkness, Simon can't make out the color of the astronaut's eyes, but they're soft and fixed on him.
In which Simon is rescued after escaping the ruins of his own universe. With help from a clumsy, but persistently kind scientist and an alien he's just glad isn't eel shaped, Simon starts to believe he can finally put the past behind him.
Unfortunately, he's not all that made it through.

A mutated man covered in viscera has been taken aboard the Hail Mary, 5 months before it lands on Erid.
Grace is itching to learn more about the blood that moves, and the man with teeth and crazy fast regenerative properties. The man with the face. The gorgeous beautiful face. Oh god, Grace needs to get normal QUICK!
More of a focus on science and also on Eridian language! Figuring out the translations were my favorite parts of the book, so I'm writing more, baby!
Yes, there is some malnutrition and lack of food but I keep it light. Scientific solutions will be found... mark my words...

Summary
Upon investigating a moon that appeared in Erid's orbit, Adrian is given a leaky space blob by a tree that reflects their long-missing mate in more ways than one and hails from a starless universe. Simon, finding a new community on Erid, is more than willing to help them out with space travel and make himself useful in hopes they'll never go through what he did.
AT-5 is still up there, waiting for its wayward son.A couple of years later, Grace and Rocky arrive with taumoeba and all of Earth's knowledge.

The suspension bridge effect refers to the phenomenon where sexual attraction increases under conditions of high anxiety. Maybe that’s why Simon feels such a connection to the man who saved him from dying in a tomb his fellow man put him in to punish him for a crime he never committed. Maybe that’s why he’s so protective of his savior. His angel. Despite the situation, he finds himself in a state only slightly better than what he once was. But those emotions often fade with time, which begs the question: Is the love between the two men real, or will it fade out like the stares Simon once knew?
On Grace’s journey to Erid, Rocky and he run into what could only be described as a submarine. The most surprising thing, though, was that inside was a wounded man on the verge of death. Not able to turn away from someone in need, Grace brings him on the ship with no idea how important he will become to the man he saved.

Then Adrian’s mate arrives with another human in tow, and Simon’s panicking. If the savior of Erid thinks he’s a monster, if he leverages the debt Erid owes him to kick Simon out…
Grace knows he’s a guest in this stranger’s home - Adrian made it very clear that said stranger is cagey around new people and if he asks Grace to leave, Grace has to go back on the Hail Mary until they can build him his own place. After four years crammed in a small space ship, Grace is desperate to be allowed to stay.
There’s a miscommunication in there somewhere.
