Will Graham is a troubled 12-year-old boy, thrown about by the foster care system into 7th grade at a boarding school—and into the domain of guidance counsellor and child psychologist, Doctor Lecter. The grooming is subtle, the "romance" gradual, the violence unavoidable. The child is barely able to navigate his own feelings, and despite his good intentions, he always finds himself spiralling and lost. But there is always one beacon of hope, one anchor: Hannibal.

Will had pulled a smile out of him for the second time that night. It snuck up on his reptilian profile even as Hannibal was turned away, adjusting the level of leaves in the bag. “I don’t catch your meaning.”
