If Brown or Cain was gone on a mission for too long, the family would make time for them to relax and Pennyworth would make their favorite meals to entice them to dinner. If Damian was too far into his head and feeling frustrated they would give him enough space that he didn't feel coddled but also open that door for him and eventually force him out of his own head.
    But Drake... He hadn't come to family dinner for three months now, Todd never made it to the two month mark. Drake hasn't come back to the manor after a mission for anything longer than a sitrep and debrief. (Of which Drake consistently lied about and avoided medical attention every night and not once did anyone call him on it). And Drake was always in his own head and no one seemed to bother to pull him out. No one coddled, no open doors, no forcing him to float, just... letting him drown."

Because if anyone was going to chain Damian down, it sure as hell wasn’t going to be this freak. Only he gets to put up with the brat. Only he gets to mess with him.

    The magic circles flare. And before everything goes black, Tim has one final thought:

    He really, really fucking hates magic.

When Tim is forced to share a room with Damian and Jon, he was worried about being stabbed in his sleep. He didn't realize he also had to worry about watching his little brother crawl into bed with his best friend once they thought he was asleep.

    There was a squeak. It was faint, but it was enough to untangle all of the progress Tim had made and render him wide awake once more. There was a creaking sound and the rustling of bed sheets and before he could try to figure out what it was, he saw a dark figure climbing down the ladder. Damian couldn't sleep either, it seemed.

    Tim assumed he was going to steal his blankets, get a drink of water, or maybe even take a walk, the way he sometimes did when he was restless, but he didn't. No, instead, Damian quite rudely jabbed at the mound of blankets Jon was under, earning a small groan from him.

    Damian hushed him quickly. "Scoot over," he whispered, reaching to move the blankets so he could get in the bed.

It meant that one of Damian’s carefully fortified walls had finally cracked, just enough to let someone in.

    There had been surprise when “Todd” softened into “Jason,” a reluctant acknowledgment of brotherhood. A small miracle when “Drake” became “Timothy,” and eventually just “Tim,” the name spoken with familiarity instead of distance.

    Each name change marked growth, healing, and acceptance. Each one was noticed, cataloged, and quietly treasured by the family.

    But no one was prepared for the day Damian stopped saying “Father.”

    No one was ready for the moment the word “Bruce” slipped out instead.
