Armand let out a slow breath, his lips parted. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, wanting to disappear into the mattress, “it won’t happen again.”
Now the concern on Daniel’s face turned to horror. "What?"

Summary
Daniel felt a pull to the dance floor, towards the bliss of oblivion that came with becoming one with the writhing masses. But he couldn’t afford to let his mind float away and just sway with the rhythm surrounding him. He was on a mission after all.
Armand observed his boy push his way through the crowd wearing the clothes he had picked for him. He didn’t want to be bothered tonight. Not yet at least. Not until he was ready to play. He was content to stay in the role of the observer until his beloved had found something to interest him.
Daniel could feel his presence somewhere in the club. His eyes following him through the crowd. It made Daniel vibrate with anticipation. He reached the dance floor and turned around to look at the man he’d baited. He might even enjoy himself a little while he waited. After all, he had made no promises to behave tonight.
Armand couldn’t feed from him every night without risking death and so they needed a vessel. A liaison.

“Are you ill?” Armand responded instead of a real greeting. Daniel did look rather sickly, thankfully not in the currently overdosing way that Armand had seen him before. And something in here was bleeding. Daniel grumbled and sat up on the couch, dangling his head over the back.
“Mm. No, just my monthly. Cramps are being a real bitch.”
Ah. So that was the source of the blood smell. Oh dear.
“Would you like me to leave?” Say yes say yes say yes, Daniel I don’t want to hurt you, oh please don’t actually say yes—
Daniel looked at him finally, confused. “Huh? Why?”
“It is—“ Armand swallowed heavily. “—quite a lot of blood.”

“What do you need, baby?” Daniel asks, his voice delicate as a soap bubble. Armand can just barely feel the puff of air on his neck as he speaks. He can feel, too, where Daniel’s hand rubs at his arm lightly, where his caress brings goosebumps to the surface. The parts of him that Daniel touches light up like a switchboard, like isolated stars in a constellation that hasn’t been drawn yet. Each point of contact something sharp and alive in the graveyard that is his body.
“Touch me,” Armand begs, turning his face into Daniel’s chest. Listening to the soft thud of his heartbeat, the same heartbeat that flutters beneath Armand’s rib cage. Their heart, their heart, their heart. “Everywhere, please.”

He lays his head gently against the man’s shoulder, shuts his eyes, and pretends he’s being held. Pretends that the rocking motions are soothing instead of agony. Pretends the panting whispers in his ear are reassurances, instead of B-grade porn dialogue. Pretends that it’s Daniel inside of him.
The longer these men find their pleasure in him, the longer he can pretend that Daniel will ever hold him again.
The first man finishes. A new one takes his place behind him. More pain. More being held. The new man puts a hand on Armand’s stomach, comments something about feeling himself inside him.
It’s intimate, Armand tells himself. He’s cradling Armand so close.

The tablet in the catalog wasn’t Armand’s. (He’d been in possession of the latest iPad model, something he was very excited to share when Daniel asked one quiet afternoon in the penthouse.) But it did give Daniel an idea. If Armand wasn’t going to do something kind for himself, Daniel would.

Something was wrong with Daniel. He’d been acting strange the past few nights, jumping when Armand entered the room, refusing to sit still, sequestering himself. It was so painfully obvious, it took genuine effort for Armand to ignore it. And he desperately wanted to ignore it. But with each passing evening, the reason for Daniel’s skittish behavior became more evident. He was getting rid of Armand.
OR: Armand starts acting weird when Daniel brings him back to New York after a less-than-ideal reunion. Daniel tries to do something nice. Armand misinterprets and thinks Daniel is going to throw him out.
