He had already been running behind the rest of his clan when he found the boy on the battlefield.
Due to circumstances, he knew who the boy was. He would have had to have been an idiot not to recognize Uchiha Izuna, laid out on the ground and bleeding to death. Tobirama reached for his sword, still a little clumsy in his hands despite how long he had already wielded it, and he stared at the Uchiha. He could sense another of his own clan nearby, heading for home, could feel their chakra in the air, and he knew they were likely the party responsible for the injuries draining the life from the other.
The Uchiha was still alive.
Tobirama watched him breathing, the way his chest struggled for air, his hand was clamped tightly to the wound that kept pouring out blood.
If he did not act, Uchiha Izuna would die.

Okay, sure, he was missing a lot of school. He had Iruka for that. He was learning and catching up and making sure he knew what he’d missed when he’d been locked up in a basement. His parents tried their best not to treat him like he was made of glass, and his cousin and Konan tried to stay sane and normal when he talked to people.
But he knew when something wasn’t right.
Naruto sat at the dinner table, listening to the vampire talking to his parents, and lifted his head when something felt different. Something in the air shifted, the sounds muting for a second.

He had not told the entire truth when asked, not really. He had met Madara several times, gotten to know him – he had been the one to ask Madara to enter into the peace talks.
After that, when Madara had shut down, it had been impossible to get him to talk. Hashirama had taken blame upon himself – if he had not asked, Izuna might not have been cut down.
Or perhaps he would have been.
There was no telling, truthfully, not without knowing who had done the deed.
Hashirama welcomes Madara back into the world. They've been overdue for a conversation for a long, long time.

“A mission?” Izuna frowned, his hands going to Tobirama’s chest. “On your own?”
“I am not a child, Izuna.”
“No, of course not,” Cutting off the touch of their old battle-ready anger, Izuna rolled his eyes. “But your brother sending you on your own seems unusual. That was all I meant,” he kissed the tip of Tobirama’s nose. “I meant no offense, lover.”
He watched the flicker and flare of anger calm in an instant. “Ah,” Tobirama nodded. “It is meant to be mostly a diplomatic mission; one he cannot undertake himself. With his new title, Madara insists that Hashirama cannot go running off to see to it that a scroll be escorted into the Hokage’s archives for a clan that wishes to join the new village.” He sighed, shivering when they pressed together, still naked. Izuna almost cackled, wanted to follow up on what could be gained by pressing even further, but with the mention of a mission…
He relented, kissing Tobirama one last time.
When Tobirama gets poisoned on a mission, Izuna is the only one who knows how to find the solution. It's a surprise to their brothers, of course, who didn't know about their affair.

Hiashi lifted his chin once more, alert, when there was a moment of silence. “Then perhaps you will allow me to take care of my nephew — as promised to my brother, a condition of his sacrifice – by seeing to his marriage. Now that he is of an age to be married, of course, he has a few prospects as something useful to the clan,”
“We do have a list of potential brides, suitable for such a member of the family. An orphan, taken in by his uncle, born to the branch family, of course we know brides who would bring honor and status—”
“Oh, I already have someone chosen,” Hiashi smiled. He was tired.
He’d been shown the truth of his actions, the error of his judgment. He had been given a chance to stare acutely into the width and breadth of his past and know, deeply and achingly, that it had been the wrong path to take.
“You…What?”
Hiashi stared back at his father, aware that he was pushing back against him for the first time in his life. Hinata had made a promise, one that she had brought to him. One that he intended to keep. “I have chosen someone for my nephew to marry,” he simply repeated it. “The Kazekage has already accepted the proposal.”

“You’re adorable,” Tobirama interrupted him, an eyebrow raised. He hadn’t even bothered to draw his sword.
“…What?”
“Either stop standing on things and being adorable while screaming at me,” the other eyebrow joined the first when Izuna sneered at him. “Or marry me and make it more of my problem.”
Izuna choked. “What?”
“Either stop getting in my face to yell at me while being adorable,” the Senju bastard had the gall to repeat it, somehow, and Izuna almost had to give him credit for that. He really almost did. He had to have done something to Izuna, however, because his face was burning and his hands were shaking. “Or marry me and make it my problem forever.” He crossed his arms over his chest, shrugging as if he hadn’t just suggested something impossible. “Your choice.”

There was only so much he could do, only so much he wanted to do, so he sat under a tree with his eyes closed.
His hands were off to the sides, his head leaned back, and his weapons were either sheathed or put a distance away. If he needed them, he could reach them, but he knew he would not need them for some time. Even with the air of war, the way everything had been going lately, he knew he would not need them. He did not stir when a presence came closer, a weight dropping into his lap.
“My brother is going mad.”
“I had noticed, yes,” he whispered, lifting one hand to pet the hair now laid out over his thigh. “And to think, we had once thought to reveal our relationship to him.”

The plants he had been given had grown enough to use to brew a potion, he’d been able to complete it in between playing with the children and checking in with the heroes. Robbie stared at the liquid, taking a moment to breathe deeply. All of his work was complete, for this, and it felt like a key in his hands. Working carefully, slowly, he bottled two doses up – he set the rest aside, protected within a couple of barrier spells. If any of the children came into his lair, they wouldn’t be able to accidentally ingest any of it.
