Mental distractions weren't really his thing.
“How do you deal then?” He finds himself asking. He supposes Donnie was somewhat of a veteran in such things, more so than all his other brothers combined.
“Well, usually I use math or science. Any kind of long division or equation or formula to keep my brain focused and busy.” His mouth curls around a slight smile. “So yeah. I guess it is some kind of mental gymnastics in a sense.”
And Raph wasn’t the type for making up unnecessary homework in his head when need be. That would always be Donnie’s thing - whether he was here or not to claim it, all those years later and Raph still hadn’t found another alternative that didn’t involve moving or jumping or using his fists.
But he looks at Mikey, shifting in his sleep as he tugs at his thin, moth bitten blanket, and feels a solid lump press at the back of his throat, bitter tasting and unshifting.
I had three brothers. I lost two. Now I have only one.
