Summary
Since Raphael was small he has had horrifying anxiety attacks and their origin has been unknown, but Master Splinter taught him a meditation to prevent them from happening again. But, when one day Raphael finds an old album full of pictures of the turtles when they were small and he doesn't see himself among them, his alarms go off and he is victim of another of his horrific attacks. Then he gets a nightmare that gives him a clue of his mysterious childhood that only overwhelms him even more. Consequentially, he runs away in order to catch up with himself but, in his weak state, The Shredder and an inhumane experimenting science facility take advantage of it.

Raph feels like an alien in his own skin.
When he'd woken up in the white room, he'd remembered a few basic things- like how to speak, how to count, how to eat. He knew he was a turtle. He knew some simple things too, like how bees make honey and red and blue make purple and that grass is green. He knew how to read and think, all the basic things someone needed to know so they could function. But beyond that, he had known nothing.
edit (6/18/25): ive taken raph's coma/injury + the effects in a different direction and this fic can be disregarded for the most part. it's still canon to an extent but as i develop this au further there are a lot of aspects from this one specifically that don't really apply anymore or are approached differently now

This often leads to him butting heads with his siblings and reacting with anger even when he doesn't mean to. When all is said and done, Raphael knows he can turn to his best friend to provide some comfort. Raph is faced with more confusion with the realization he might just be in love with Casey Jones.
