Summary
Following the canonical events of War Games, the Stephanie Brown, former Girl Wonder has met her demise at the hands of the nefarious Black Mask. The Bat Family all feel the loss in different ways, unable to talk to one another about it. Robin, Batgirl, Batman- they all shoulder guilt for her death. A body to bury was never found- emptiness left in the casket and hearts.
But life goes on, and Gotham doesn't sleep. A dangerous figure in a red hood has returned- a figure that ushers more guilt into Bruce's life. And behind him follows a new shadow.(Or, simply put: What if Jason had been the one to find Stephanie after Black Mask almost murdered her?)

The kid was going to die at this rate, whether or not Jason had anything to do with it. Apparently dead Robins were just a thing, now, and Bruce didn’t give a shit whether they lived or died.
There was something almost comforting about that, that Jason’s wasn’t the only life that didn’t matter.

Well. If those fucks didn’t care about their baby bird now, Jason would just have to make them care. And he had a few ideas on just how to do that.
Robin might get a little broken in the process, but what was a little kidnapping and torture between friends?

Stephanie wasn’t stupid; she knew Robin’s colors well as any Gotham kid did. It was Dick’s old costume. (Stephanie knew she wasn’t even supposed to know that name; Batman had had a concussion when he’d called Nightwing by it, and they’d both been cagey with her for months afterwards.) It was the costume he’d worn before he’d grown up and become Nightwing. So why this case, with this costume, but a different name?
