“…I was joking before, Sonic. How do you know who he was?” Shadow asked.
“I mean, know is a strong word… I think I just met him a couple of times?”
“How? From the way he talks, I’m quite certain that he does not even exist in our current time.”
Or, Sonic remembers pieces of a timeline that never seems to have happened. It spooked Shadow, it spooks him, so they’re heading back to Soleanna, to the heart of it all.

As the sun and moon rose and fell he worked hard to ensure everyone had their freedom. If this star pushed himself any further he'd soon burn out. He continued anyway, shining brighter
Stars shine brighter before their death. Yet Sonic was already considered the brightest star by many, his light always able to vanquish the dark. But this time it wouldn't be enough. The End was here yet he refused to give up, not when he had others counting on him. Consumed by darkness, corruption bit at the edge of his mind and he knew what he had to do. Despite the warnings, he gave his light 'til no more was left to give. Shining brighter 'til a supernova occurred, the death of a star
With the death of a star a new one may form, familiarity replaced by uncertainty. Sonic used to be a star, or so he's heard, so why does he find himself lost in the sky, unable to name a single star? He was no longer a bright shining star, but maybe someday he'd find himself among the stars of the sky once again

Summary
As Master King predicted, Sonic lost all of his Cyber powers after the final battle with Supreme. What he didn’t predict, though, was that a small part of his Cyber corruption would remain. The only feasible cure is, predictably, the Chaos Emeralds. All of them.
With his friends off on their own adventures, Sonic must search for the Chaos Emeralds alone. In the meantime, he finds himself growing closer to Shadow, of all people. As Shadow becomes an increasingly prominent figure in his life, Sonic realizes that his feelings for his rival-turned-friend go far beyond what he once thought.
He resolves to push those feelings aside until after he has all the Chaos Emeralds, but as his condition progresses, he finds himself forced to ask for Shadow's help. Working off of flimsy leads from Rouge and the Chaotix Detective Agency, Sonic and Shadow are caught in a race against time.
Will they be able to find all the Chaos Emeralds before Sonic's corruption passes the point of no return?
