Summary
An azure hedgehog awakens in Camelot with no memories of who he is, only vague impressions that he left behind some terrible calamity. The people of Camelot are certain he is King Arthur returned to them. With no one else to be and a past he doesn't want to remember, he accepts this position.
In the future, Team Dark have been given the objective to find Sonic the Hedgehog. Their pursuits lead them to a magical book that seems to be able to take them back to the ancient days of Camelot. But the king they've all read in stories is none other than the hedgehog they're looking for. His knights don't want him to leave... and strangely, Sonic doesn't want to leave, either.

The words hit like a slap. Sonic’s body locked up, spine stiff, mind skidding like tyres on black ice.
No. No way. That’s not—
That wasn’t Shadow. That wasn’t something Shadow would ever say. Not in a hundred years. Not even as a joke.
“…Wait.” The word came out rough. As if it scraped against something inside him. “You’re not Shadow. Are you.”
The smile changed—less like a stranger's grin now and more like something tender. Familiar even. Like Sonic had just said something kind. He tilted his head, studying him with calm reverence.
“That is correct, my liege,” he said, and then, with an almost theatrical grace, dropped to one knee. “It is I. Lancelot.”
And just like that, the world tilted beneath Sonic’s feet.
Or—Lancelot ends up hijacking Shadow's body!

After a tragic accident, Sonic, only 6 years old, was left to wander the wrecked streets of what was once his home. He was found by Dr. Eggman, who took him in. Although Sonic never really viewed him as a father, they were still family in a way.
Growing up, Sonic would often run away from home and cause trouble in the city, giving him a bad reputation and causing G.U.N. to start hunting him down.Shadow, a notable G.U.N. agent, has now been tasked with taking Sonic down and bringing him in for containment. Though, it isn’t as simple as he had thought. Sonic’s speed and strength rival his own, and his actions are erratic, unpredictable.

Sonic tries to keep up hope that the Prime World can be fixed and that he will see his original friends again... but it's difficult to keep a smile on his face when every alternate world brings new struggles and unpredictable chaos in the seemingly neverending multiverse that had been created.
When it all gets too much, Sonic finds himself going to Shadow time and time again.
Because even if Shadow hates him, Sonic knows that he's the only one who truly understands – the only one that Sonic can rely on to keep pushing him to fix the mistake that created this mess... no matter how hard it gets sometimes.
AKA:
Sonic's guilt complex keeps pushing him to extremes while Shadow tries his best to help despite having no idea how their 'friendship' or emotions should work.

Shadow's hand brushes against something else. Something long, soft, and malleable all at the same time. Reaching further he takes it out, peering at the brown color of it.
An owl feather he notes, brushing a finger down the striped pattern. At the bottom is a sunflower, delicately intertwined into the stalk of the feather.
“This?” Shadow asks softly, twisting the feather at the sky, reveling in the beauty of it. A playful smirk picks at his lips as he turns to Sonic. “Didn’t take you as the type of person to collect bird feathers.”
But Sonic's eyes aren’t playful. Instead, there's a low feeling of dread, guilt, and sadness filling them. His ears are low to his head, his body curled into himself and it seems all he can muster is a small, “Oh.”

Summary
After the events of the Eclipse Cannon, there's still much to do - Tom's still in the hospital, the Master Emerald was still missing, GUN's being suspiciously silent, and there's a second hedgehog unaccounted for. At least Sonic can focus on that, right?
Until GUN makes a sudden appearance, kidnapping Sonic and deeming him too dangerous to walk free. Converting him into their own personal superweapon, allowing him to take Shadow's place. After wiping Sonic's memories, and planting fake loyalty in his head, he becomes a completely loyal GUN soldier. And GUN isn't going to stop with just Sonic.
Sonic's family is on a manhunt to find him. With no clues, no leads, and no ideas, they're still expending every recourse on hand to try and find him. Until a familiar black and red hedgehog reveals he might just know the answer.
With the clock ticking against time, Sonic's family is racing to find him and save him from GUN. ...But will it be too late to save him from himself?

But as Shadow snickered whenever Sonic made a mistake before correcting him, as Shadow challenged him for the most trivial things during their dance back at the party to fire Sonic up, as Shadow chided him for always failing to tie a tie correctly in the comfort of the black hedgehog’s room after yet a short dancing session in it…
Sonic came to realise that perhaps he’s much more in love with his Shadow than he thought he was.
or an experiment gone wrong lead to Sonic travelling to another universe, and with this new adventure he found himself in, he discovered more things about himself: a series of epiphanies. (rough summary )

Take your time, Sonic shouts back.
He is balancing on top of a low ledge, not even looking up. He hasn't looked up once ever since arriving here, ever since noticing the plane and the bags and hearing the engine purr relentlessly. Out of the corner of his eyes he can see his little brother zipping back and forth, can hear his excited chatter, low and muffled as if reaching him through glass. He concentrates on his shoes and on the thin ledge he is pacing on.
Up and down. Up and down.
I'm done, Tails calls.
Great, Sonic calls back.
