Orion Pax would happily live as a hermit in the Iacon archives if Alpha Trion allowed it. But his mentor insists on sending him off on research projects to gain real life experience. This time he's sent to Kaon, the dangerous underground city with a less than stellar reputation. Orion doesn't expect to get swept up by the city's dark underbelly, nor does he expect the awe-inspiring gladiator he meets there.
Or
Through a miscommunication, Orion Pax ends up both sponsoring Megatron and interfacing with him, essentially becoming his sugar daddy. This is probably not what Alpha Trion wanted him to do.

Iacon University (IU) — the sole university on Cybertron, where every bot goes after Iacon High.
One elementary school, high school, one university, one educational system: the Cybertronian Institute of Learning (CIL), run and administered for millennia by the singular, absolute leadership of Unicron. Ever since the tragic accident that ended Primus's life, all those millennia ago.
Mathematics. Sciences. Engineering. The prime focuses of the entire system, much to Orion Pax's dismay.
Which begs the question—why? Not that they're bad subjects...But why are students barely exposed to anything else, and so heavily discouraged from pursuing other interests?
The question has been bugging Orion since the very beginning of his education, and it's about time somebot got to the bottom of it.
In another vein: D-16 really wishes his annoyingly charming childhood bestfriend would stop trying to get himself killed. Or worse — expelled.
The institution was the institution. Even if he agreed there were holes in it, there was nothing either of them could do until after they graduated and got their T-cogs.
...Right?

Summary
After millions of years of war, Optimus is pretty sure D-16 is long gone.
Then a mission goes horribly wrong, Optimus gets trapped by a particularly nasty species of energy-feeding predators, and in a moment of pure panic he calls the one name he hasn't called in ages.
D-16.
Unfortunately for both of them, Megatron answers.
Now Optimus has to deal with the fact that his oldest instincts still consider his greatest enemy safe, while Megatron has to deal with the even worse realization that apparently D-16 never stopped listening for Orion.
Neither of them is having a good time about this.

Why? Well, apparently, he fought in a war against his crazy soon-to-be conjunx and brought a planet (he didn’t even know could die), back to life.
What does Orion say to all that? He laughs, calls them crazy, and commandeers a ship he doesn’t know how to fly to find his lover.

Summary
Megatron doesn't know if what his systems perceive is real or an illusion created by his own processor, searching for a reason to not abandon his decision. He has left his faction, becoming a traitor to his own people in search of redemption, and perhaps, also to pursue that unspoken love he thought was extinct. The tension on the Ark only increases, and his relationship with the new Prime brings back tormenting memories. Despite trying to escape them, he ends up finding refuge in the owner of those memories: Optimus Prime.
Optimus, as imposing and helpful as he was sullen. The typical Alpha, currently feigning a nonchalance completely unlike him, but who somehow ended up acting in a strangely comforting and familiar way. No matter how many times he tried to run from him, something inside him seemed to want to take hold, to live in his system like a parasite, slowly consuming him to the core.
Megatron persists, picking at that unhealed wound, injecting himself and getting drunk on something he doesn't believe is appropriate, without realizing at what point he goes from being the hunter to the prey.
"And damn it, if you didn't love me the same way... why were you acting like that?"

When a false distress signal lures Optimus Prime into Lockdown's trap, he and Megatron are torn apart, each later believing the other was killed. While Megatron wages a war between grief, loss, and the ever persistent Lockdown and army of humans out for him, Optimus is rescued by Cade and his family that get swept up in the run from Lockdown and humans.
Admist the gunshots, screams, explosions, and fear, Optimus and Megatron never stop fighting until they find one another once more.

There was something about Hot Rod.
Optimus couldn’t quite put a name to it, but the racer had some.. quality to him that kept drawing the Autobot leader in. Perhaps it was his strong personality, his persistent optimism, his dedication to his comrades, or perhaps it was that enticing frame of his.
It didn't take long to figure out why.
The Matrix really wants to bond with Hot Rod. Unfortunately for it, it's already bonded to Optimus Prime.
Unfortunately for them, it makes it work.
