Summary
They say ignorance is bliss, that the key to a life filled with nothing of joy stemmed from blindness, for if you couldn't see the starving children and tyrannical monsters, what was there to worry over? At the end of the day, those occurrences affect not you, so it should carry the same concern of the impoverished neighborhoods four cities down.
Except Chuuya thought different, and the bandages were only one of Dazai's many masks, scars only a tip of the iceberg of secrets making up the Demon Prodigy.

Summary
Finally, night falls and the stars begin to leak beyond the shroud, their cold light piercing through the inky blackness and Chuuya leans his head onto Dazai’s shoulder. Tart apple and brown sugar surround them, seeping into Dazai’s lungs.
It's Chuuya's 26th birthday; an age that brings some grief to his life. Dazai, obviously, is going to do whatever he can to make the day as enjoyable as he can regardless.

Except, when Dazai reaches out to check his fever, Chuuya’s clammy skin turns out to be ice cold. Stormy blue focuses on him, widening at Dazai’s shameless intrusion in his apartment, and slaps his hand away. Pointy, claw-like nails graze his skin, where small droplets of blood bloom from a single scratch. Chuuya’s pupils swallow the irises until only the barest hint of sky is visible. His nose twitches, mouth parting to reveal sharp canines.
Ah.
So he isn’t sick at all.
Or; Dazai finds his inner good samaritan to help his vampire partner on... a variety of levels.

Dazai is bored with life, so when he finds out there's a haunted castle nearby with ghosts who must have information on the after life of course he had to check it out. It's always best to get reviews of a place before moving in after all. "The next day Dazai didn’t show up at the mafia’s headquarters, nor the day after that, and as lazy as the man could be, he was always at work at least for a few minutes, if only to torment his coworkers. So when Chuuya had two suspiciously calm days of work, he knew something was wrong.
It’s not like he cared, it was Dazai, Dazai was… well he was Dazai, annoying and whiny and an absolute asshole. But he was also his partner, and had a pile of paperwork that Chuuya wasn’t about to finish for him. So, after a painfully unsuccessful talk with some of the daily targets of the man’s annoyance, he gave into his own curiosity and made what he knew would be the stupidest decision in his life. He went to visit Dazai."

He watches Chuuya fall asleep, slow and soft, in small bits. He is so beautiful, and he is mine. All mine.
I am the first person he smiled at.

I am the first person who has held him like this.
He is mine. He will always be mine now, after these things.
Dazai thinks, for a moment, that he might not ever get to feel things, or see the world the way most people do, or find a reason to live. But he can live for this, for him. For this boy. He does not care about birds or parks or trees or people, does not feel all that much when he sees the sunrise or sunset or the stars and the moon. He does not like dogs or children. He does not like the world.
But he likes Chuuya. He likes the way Chuuya looks when he is looking at all these things.

“Dazai, it's Hirotsu.” He is still slowly making his way towards the frightened executive. The older man clenches his fists feeling his ability flicker in the face of danger.
Another gunshot goes off but the Black Lizard is prepared and moves quick enough to miss being shot. In a few quick steps he's crouched in front of Dazai. His hand grips the hot barrel of the gun. The young teen is wailing like a child as he fights him trying to get his gun freed. Hirotsu has had enough of this and raises his free hand.
“Dazai!”
A loud smack.

Scariest?
Hundreds of memories flooded Chuuya’s brain.
Being stabbed in the back by people he trusted.
Opening Arahabaki’s gate.
Watching his best friends die.
Torture.
Watching himself die.
Hundreds of memories of times when Chuuya’s heart pounded in his ears. Though looking back on it, Chuuya thought his heart might have been pounding just as hard during his first kiss as it had been when he’d come close to being crushed by a collapsing building.
Fear was such an obscure concept to Chuuya. He didn’t fear many things. Not anymore, at least.OR
Chuuya comes to the realization that he really, really does not want Dazai to die.

Then the door to Mori's office burst open, and Chuuya stalked into the room. A look shared between the leader and executive, along with the cruel smirk on Mori's face, told Dazai this was all planned even if Chuuya didn't know it.

Chuuya froze when he saw Dazai, bare arms out with ripped bandages scattered on the floor. Mori still held his scalpel, holding it dangerously close to Dazai's already injured arms.
"Ah Chuuya, please. I am curious to hear your version of the events that occurred on your recent mission."

"No," Dazai says, and then sort of trails off and goes quiet, blank. It's not something he is very prone to. His hands are sweaty and he doesn't know why. His arm jumps a little at his side.
"Then what? If you're not gonna talk, I'm gonna -- "
"Does Chuuya know it's my birthday today?"

It feels equally right leaving Dazai’s lips, like a whispered prayer. No, not a prayer. He isn’t asking for anything. More like a promise. A promise of devotion, of care, of trust. Trust between them has always been as easy as breathing.
(Or: Chuuya goes a little too far during sex and ends up making Dazai cry but it’s okay because he’s a good partner and they communicate their way through it. And have better, softer sex again the next day.)
