Cyrene and him had made a vow. They would save Amphoreus and put an end to these cycles. Together.
But now, Cyrene 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘦. And his friends, his 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘴 on this Flame Chase Journey no longer remembered him. Which was to be expected, of course. Amphoreus was no longer a simulation and so, its people are now 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 than 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘢. But, you see, the human mind isn't 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘵 to bear the burden of 33 million lifetimes 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴. Only the robust body of an 𝘌𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 could bear it. Like him. L̶i̶k̶e ̶C̶y̶r̶e̶n̶e.
Now, all they knew of was his existence and his role in saving them from their fate. He has truly become nothing more than a legend who only belonged to a storybook now.
There was nothing left of 𝘗𝘩𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘯 now. And the only one who knew of 𝘒𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘢 was no longer by his side. So, clearly, the only thing he could do now was yearn for another miracle and search for the traces - traces he will never find - of that little pink-haired girl who loved and 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥 and 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙙. Till there was nothing left of her. And the only one that remembered her tale was the Nameless Hero she had adored.

Summary
The night before Phainon starts his new assignment as a pilot for world-famous rock band "The Undying" he drinks away his problems, has a one night stand and cries to his hook-up about his problems and the fact that he hates himself, in that order. The next morning he decides to sneak away without telling the guy or leaving a note.
Thinking he had a clean break Phainon starts his first day as the pilot for "The Undying", only to find out that the fling from the previous night is none other than Mydeimos, the frontman of "The Undying". And suddenly Phainon's cushy new job isn't that cushy at all as he has to confront not only his feelings for Mydei, but also his feelings about himself. And this time Mydei is not letting Phainon run off to avoid thinking about his problems.

Summary
His teeth press, little by little — a morsel found that if he surged forward for to enjoy he could crush between his molars — against the soft, barebellied offering before him with reverence that borders on prayer until he can feel the give, the real imprint, claim, mark of his presence on Mydei’s skin. Instinct and desire entwined. To bite is also to touch in a way, isn’t it?
There are fingers curled in the collar of his coat threatening to wrench him away from Mydei’s being. “Phainon,” it’s a growling roll of his name, a low warning that sends heat down Phainon’s spine, mouth curling at the edge as he curls his fingers around the edge of Mydei’s pauldron, a wrestle of who can keep who where. “I thought such tactics were beneath you.” It’s a scoff, and Phainon can feel the formation of the words beneath his teeth, almost against his tongue, all as it accompanies a twitch to Mydei’s posture, a shift to the stabilization of his leg from an all too fleeting moment of weakness.
One of their daily scuffles acts as a bit of an awakening for Phainon.

Summary
When Phainon takes on the task to retrieve a valuable antique from a brothel by posing as a serving boy, the last thing he expects is to end up here: a dim room, heavy with the scent of oil and smoke, facing three Kremnoan warriors. Scarred faces turn toward him, their sharp, predatory eyes weighing his presence.
And then he sees him.
Mydei.
Mydei reclines with calculated ease, shadows cutting across the familiar sharpness of his jaw and the quiet authority in his gaze. Phainon falters, his breath hitching as recognition sparks between them.
With everything riding on his disguise, Phainon stamps down the urge for confrontation and lowers his head. “Welcome, h-honored guests. How may I serve you?”
Phainon infiltrates a brothel disguised as a serving boy for a self-imposed mission. As luck would have it, one of his clients just had to be Mydei.
Their unplanned encounter turns out to be far more rewarding than Phainon expected.

Summary
Mydei leans away from the dromas at the sight of him. He looks the same as he always does: scowl in place, dressed and armored in Kremnoan attire. Yet in Phainon’s preheat vision, Mydei is achingly handsome—sleek lines, sharp angles, and a ruggedness from years on the battlefield.
Phainon’s thighs grow wet.
“What took you so long?” Mydei snaps. “We’re heading to a negotiation, not a field trip. No need to bring all your outfits."
“What if I want to impress the stakeholder?” Phainon jests, adjusting his tunic to hide his lower torso. He falters, however, when he notices Mydei’s sharp hazel eyes fixed on the slick staining his front. For a moment, Phainon feels raw and exposed, shame creeping up his neck. Mydei’s breathing pauses, the pace slowing to something deeper and more indulgent, before he looks away.
“We have a long journey ahead,” Mydei murmurs. “Pace yourself.”
Phainon sets out on a mission with Mydei, determined to maintain the facade of being a beta despite his preheat. But then his full-blown heat strikes at the worst possible time.
Mydei takes care of him.

Alive- so why can't Phainon stop having vivid nightmares of spilled golden blood, a wound to the back incapable of healing-
Of Mydei laying lifeless on the council grounds?
(Or, Phainon starts having horrifyingly visceral nightmares of a past unfamiliar to him, and slowly begins to piece together that there is something more nefarious lurking behind both the Flame Reaver and Amphoreus than the Chrysos Heirs originally imagined.)

Phainon choked.

He is not going to last this cycle. A thousand cycles ago he had to drape himself in an old cloak taken from the ruins of Aidonia to hide the worst of the damage he has done to himself. A hundred cycles ago he shattered Dawnmaker, and has not had the capability to forge it anew. Fifty cycles ago he picked up a set of armor from the ruins of Castrum Kremnos to hide the state of his face. Forty nine cycles ago he gave up convincing Aglaea and Cerydra and Tribios on who he was under the armor and cloak and fell back to the only plan he had left, the one he knew would always work.
Last cycle, the Lance of Fury almost tore his body into pieces before he could take the final coreflame.
And so now he is here, following the young version of himself. They are close to the end, just before the mission to Styxia and a few months before the final advance on Aquila that heralds the death of light, of hope, of everything. But he is not going to last this cycle.
Not unless he tells this Phainon, this Khaslana, everything.

“Your wings,” she continued, “I think folding them away isn’t helping. Each time you bring them out or put them away you put a lot of strain onto the joints.”
It wasn’t a bad idea, he knew that. It was just that… Well, his wings weren’t currently strong enough to be anything more than a pair of ornamental appendages attached to his back. A whole lot of limb currently capable of achieving nothing but getting in the way.
“Do I have to?”

Phainon did the only thing possible in such a situation: He panicked.
“Uh,” he said, because clearly his eloquence had abandoned him during one of the cycles, “yes?”
// OR, circumstance leads to the heirs thinking Phainon only lived through thirty-three cycles. Rather than correcting them on this, Phainon doubles down and decides this is the new narrative he'll go along with so as to avoid worrying them too much.

Summary
Of all the stories he’s read, Phainon would’ve never chosen to reincarnate into this one. It’s a messy world, not because of complex political schemes or endless, cruel wars, but because the lore is all over the place. Even the wiki has partially given up on certain plot points– and that certainly says something.
Oh, and also because there is a character who shares his name, and it’s a character deeply loathed by the fanbase, Phainon included.
Unfortunately, whoever plopped him down in this story hasn’t heard his misgivings, and so, here he is: the fake hero of Amphoreus, Phainon of Aedes Elysiae.
