Summary
Peter didn’t mean to become the alpha, Derek had never meant to come back to Beacon Hills, and Stiles hadn’t meant to become a werewolf. Just because you don’t mean for something to happen doesn’t mean it’s not something good. Sometimes the things we think are the worst possible scenario end up being the best things to happen to us. Maybe, just maybe, these things were actually meant to be.
Book 1: How It's Mean to Be: A season 1 AU starting from episode 9, ‘Wolf’s Bane’ where Peter bites Stiles that night in the hospital. This starts a chain reaction of events that leads to everything playing out very differently than canon. Peter learns how to be a better alpha, Derek learns how to let people back into his life and Stiles finds out what pack can really mean.

But it was kind of Stiles’ job to notice things, and if he first noticed something, it often grew too much not to notice.

So basically this is my fix-it for season four's treatment of Peter, which made me angry enough to spit nails. I've reworked the beginning and will be expanding this into a longer fic.

Summary
Peter wakes in a hole in the ground of a house. Next to him is a man of approximately his age, eyes burning Alpha red, who smells exactly like his 15-year-old nephew. They seem to be in a house that smells like burnt wood and ashes which looks oddly like his childhood home. A young girl with fiery hair and terrified eyes cowers in the corner of the room while looking at him like he is going to gut her. There’s also a mirror reflecting the light of the moon on him above him.
‘Ah, the worm moon ritual, that means I must have died then…’
He gets out of the obvious makeshift grave, then crouches down to the young man’s level.
“Can you stand? I realize that the ritual takes its toll on energy, but since you went through the trouble of resurrecting me, I would like to know who you are, and why you smell like my nephew?”
