Summary
After the confirmation of L's death, Roger Ruvie alongside everyone else had reasonably assumed that Quillsh Wammy had also been killed at the hands of Kira.
Mello ends up running away from the orphanage after being told the news, determined to become L's sole successor.
One cold winter night, he is found by the very person who brought him into the orphanage nearly a decade ago.
Quillsh Wammy has returned to England, alive and physically intact. Among all the children he has gathered, he finds that he ought to be happy, and do his best to guide the duo that is to succeed L. It would not do to show even an inkling of what the death of his most prized protege has done to him.
Even if it wounded him deeper than any physical blade could and brutally tore open decades old scars.
Even if he is slowly falling apart.
Even if the only thing that can silence the ghosts following him is a bullet straight through his head.
Roger Ruvie has loved Quillsh Wammy for nearly half a century. That is undeniable. Whether or not undying love can save a man too stubborn to admit he needs it is another question.

Summary
L knows that Light Yagami is guilty. And he is forced to accept that he will never be able to prove it.
So, just this once, he decides to break his principles and go above the law. He kidnaps Light and takes him to Wammy's house.
He's sure that having the kids interact with a real-life mass murderer will be a very educational experience indeed.
Or: Light is Kira, L is sick of how easily manipulated the police are, and he secretly wants to see what will happen if he forces Light into a domestic situation with children just as intelligent as he is.

Summary
After the events of War Crimes, Sokka and Zuko have escaped Zhao’s warship and are fleeing across the Earth Kingdom. As well as unfamiliar terrain, they have to navigate their shared trauma, work out where they fit into the war, and their place in each others lives.
Sokka is aware that being friends with the enemy is going to bring complications, but he probably should have guessed that being friends with Zuko in particular, was going to be a bit like dunking your head repeatedly into a bucket of angry Fire Ferrets.
Katara is also grappling with the confusion of befriending an enemy, something that doesn’t prove as difficult as she had expected with the bond of shared, furious grief bridging old wounds. (Learning a new way to look at her bending doesn't hurt either)
Azula, struggling with the Fire Lord’s mistrust, encounters a few nasty surprises and has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she is a great deal better at making sensible choices than her brother.
Her father may have made a slight tactical error.
