Summary
They do not vanquish or push back the Uruks— even with the arrival of the Dwarven army. Their numbers are too low, the losses too significant, the city too far gone. They simply push back long enough to get every remaining Elf out of Ost-in-Edhil.
Elrond remembers crossing the dry riverbed, his boots sinking deep in the black mire, staring at a battlefield of dead Elves. The weight of their deaths makes him lightheaded and he staggers as grief spears his heart so suddenly it steals his breath.
Or; following the fall of Eregion, Elrond struggles with guilt and grief.

Actual Summary: Elrond gets sick. Not just a little, but really properly sick. Given he can not currently trust any of his "friends", he resorts to hide. This has consequences.

The campers try to regard them as unchanged. They say hello and hi and good morning when Nico and Will enter the dining pavilion, simple niceties sprinkled over them like sugar. They skirt around the boys’ appearances – Will, with dark brown roots showing through his blonde hair; their matching streaks of silver, thin and small enough that they only looked like shiny flecks from a distance. The prosthesis on Nico’s hand, four fingers chopped short and extended with a metal frame, his thumb left untouched.
Will’s eyes: his right a clear blue, the other covered by a swath of white, like a summer sky blocked by clouds. And, of course, the scar streaking through it, a mean-spirited shooting star blinding him.

“You’re being silly,” he repeats. “I told you your bedside manner is okay. So why don’t you believe it? Do you think I’m a liar?”
“No! I just-”
“Hmph,” he huffs, pretending to be miffed. “I think you’re afraid of nothing. Nobody’s gonna be mad if you’re a little enthusiastic about healing them. That means you want to save them! That’s what heroes do.”
“I’m - I’m a healer,” he says quietly.
“Yeah,” Nico replies. “Isn’t that what I said?”
or: after the quest group to rescue annabeth leaves camp, a ten-year-old nico winds up in the infirmary and meets will for the first time.

So far we have the unstoppable team of the big three kids and Athena cabin.” He picked at his hair for a moment before brightening and turning all this energetic attention onto Rachel. “So, Dare. Have any game predictions?”
An unexpected game of Capture the Flag has the usual teams unpaired, Nico, Jason, and Percy are left scrambling to make up a team. It’s an odd day for many reasons.

It's like, as if like somebody was gripping my-
“You’re not sick,” Nico murmurs, pressing the back of his hand to Will’s forehead. Will mutters something about bliss, leaning into Nico’s hand; he smiles again, but it is strained, and at odds with the glassy look in his eyes. The sharp, rapid breaths.
-throat and squeezing, and I feel like-
“Just don’t — feel good.”
-I'm being choked, and I can't breathe, and I shake, and-
“You’re having a panic attack, Will."
-I convulse, and sometimes-
Will shrugs. He gags again, but clamps his mouth shut before it goes anywhere, breathing deeply and carefully through clenched teeth, squeezing his eyes shut. His heart pounds faster, and the rapid movement of his chest grows shallow, but he manages to choke back his bile, swallow down whatever nausea is plaguing him.

“I’m — fine.” His laboured breathing is the loudest sound in the cabin. In the camp. “I’m handling it.”

Will is not supposed to be awake.
There are really only three people who can work the infirmary to its fully capacity, barring Chiron. Kayla, Austin, and Will are the only ones who can magically heal, as much as the volunteers are imperative, so when the camp is in full swing one of them must be stationed at all times. That’s how Will sets it up. A bit of a waste of time, he acknowledges, but Nico knows he has memorized every time a camper who should have been saved. He carries far too much guilt to ever let it happen again, as inconvenient as his rules may be.
Night shift, though, is a need-be basis. If the infirmary is as empty as it is right now, then there truly is no need to keep one of the three of them awake outside their circadian rhythm, staring at nothing. Instead, they take shifts in the on-call room — asleep, but prepared should anything go wrong, should a monster chase a new camper at an odd hour. It’s Will’s turn for on-call. It’s two in the morning. He should be asleep.
And, yet.
