A couple of vignettes which describe Hiccup and Astrid's relationship very well. The Explicit rating isn't for the usual reasons, though the story definitely alludes to it.
It shows their relationship's essence so to speak, and is definitely inspiring in its simplicity. Very-in-character. Also, the repeating line about how Astrid really didn't have a choice in the matter really hits when it comes to Hiccup's turn.

Summary
It is said that before time was first counted, humanity was gifted magic by the Angels, putting an end to the Millennium War. Not many still believe in that old legend, but regardless of the specific events, humans and monsters grew to know peace with one another, and a new age began on the continent of Th’nevun.
Now the year is 851:1 AT, and humans have started dying in monster lands. Arbiter Sans has been tasked with finding and passing judgement on the cause of the attacks before a brand new war breaks out between the two races. But that’s easier said than done, and Sans soon finds himself entangled with foreign powers hell bent on keeping their peace, a legacy that threatens the stability of the present, and a human woman who may just be the biggest mystery of them all.

Prohibition Era, Ebott City: A place where humans and monsters have always existed together with a strained and somewhat fragile peace. Most of the city’s denizens simply want to live out their daily lives in a simple cohabitation. Life, however is rarely so easy. There are five large gangs within the city limits, one of the more powerful ones being made up completely of monsters. The balance of power between the four human mafia gangs and the monster mob is delicate, spurring racism and acts of violence from both sides.
Frisk, the younger sister of infamous detective Chara Dreemurr, receives an anonymous call with clues to the case against her older brother’s sudden mysterious disappearance. Unable to obtain police assistance, she takes up her brother’s mantle and plunges into the seedy underbelly of Ebott City’s criminal organizations. Each new piece of information only brings about more questions as the web of confusion and deceit is spun around her. Who can she trust in this dangerous game? Dancing a Duet Alone (Short Story) by Kuraiarcoiris
One of the best Dancetale Frisk/Sans takes out there, originally published on Tumblr. It plays with Resets and explores Dancetale in a way that's pleasurable to the eye/ear.
I'd say this is one of my personal favorites that doesn't go too far and is very grounded. Also, the writer did research on dance positions, if I remember correctly!
Totally recommend! It's not tagged well, so it's one of the more rarer bits of fic that you only get to see after searching far.

Fated (Series) by Catsitta, Shayromi
A Hades & Persephone alternate universe of Frans. One of the best takes I've seen yet, and probably one of the only ones. It combines both stories in a way that is appealing and wonderful all the same.
It portrays Frisk's not-choice, and takes a new look into the old beloved story in Greek Mythology.

Bestiality (Longfic, Worldbuilding, Smut) by SheeWolf85
Take this bookmark with a grain of salt. Quite a handful of a fic, if I do say so myself. A sort of twisted take on the monsters from Undertale, it creates a world where monsters are the ones tormenting humans, and uses it to create the dichotomy of irredeemable monsters comes to protect innocent child.
No grooming vibes 'round here, but still a heavy and filthy fic for those who want to read it. I somewhat recommend it, though I don't think I'd read it again today.
It is however completed, and thus something you'd love to read. Don't read the tags too throughly though, you'll get spoiled with the ending.

Sanctuary of Stardust (Longfic) by Sheii
One of the more Original Character fics I've had the pleasure of reading, I've commented my fair share on this fic, and works on a whole different framework than Undertale.
It has heavy world-building, a wonderful slow build, and something that just builds anticipation about new details that come out. It introduces some known elements and introduces some unknown ones creating something that isn't close to canon, but tries to go a new route. Something not usually done within fandom.

Summary
After the barrier shattered, Sans started to display rather strange behaviors and physical changes. No one could understand why this had started to happen over the years, making Frisk worry for her friend, this goes on for years after the shattering of the barrier, then one day she finds out what had happened to him.
It seems, the problems of the Underground wasn't completely over, but now it takes place upon the surface. Will Frisk be able to confess her feelings for Sans after all these years or would his own problems and fears prevent anything from becoming romantic? Read to find out!

Monster or Beast? (Longfic) by Fire_Inu_Princess
One of the only Gaster Blaster Sans (Undertale) fanfics I have read. It really shows how romance and fear and all the delightful goodness is shown. By a quick glimpse of rereading, the narration is also good, and is one of my favorites, though I don't remember much of it right now.
It's very down to Earth and I would love to reread it someday.

A Soul to Steal (Longfic) by Rainbowrunner01 (RedArry), RedArry
One of the fanfics I used to reread often. It's a very cool Fantasy take of Undertale focusing, of course on the mage part. It's slow to update and such, but it really takes you in with its flavor and I totally recommend it!
A rare goodie! Though, we haven't gotten to the Frans part yet. It has the whole Familiar (monster) and Mage (human) part and has some sinister undertones underlying the whole thing.

Quintessence: Undertale One-shots (Series) by dragonashes
Written by the same author of one of the fics I highly recommend, The Heaven We Didn't Choose. I completely recommend this one-shots for those who are looking for good Gen fics, even if you don't subscribe to the whole Frisk/Sans dynamic.
Some are angsty, others are different, but unlike other fics which focus on romantic ships and dynamics, it's very down to Earth and clear of all that nonsense.

The Heaven We Didn't Choose (Longfic) by dragonashes
A wonderful fic that introduces an original character that isn't a reader-insert and isn't contrived. A twist on the Underfell format, the story acts as a Underfell-lite alternate universe, exploring the themes of Found Family and Love.
Attie, as a character, is wonderfully cute and also underlies a certain darkness which is handled tactfully and respectfully.
Unfortunately has not been updated since May 2019, pre-pandemic. Still recommend reading despite being unfinished.
