At the very least, Shanks still being unconscious means his Voice is quiet, hardly more than a faint whisper to catch anyone’s attention. It means he isn’t trying to help, nevermind the fact he can hardly put one foot in front of the other right now, let alone move with the speed and precision it will take to successfully slip out of the Holy Land. Shamrock has been in training to become a Knight of God, to become Father’s right hand, practically all twelve years his life - a handful of paltry swordsmanship and haki lessons from uncouth pirates can hardly measure up to that, no matter what inane statements Shanks will insist upon saying out loud at the least opportune times.

Sabo shifts, a subtle slide of his weight from one leg to the other. He’s anxious, uncertain, trying not to show it. Ready to bolt at the slightest surprise, whether that’s a thug jumping them in the trash heaps or a tiger leaping out of the trees.
“You don’t have to stay,” Ace tells him, dully, the words coming out in a fog. He doesn’t need to make Sabo wait with him. He doesn’t. He’s spent ten years missing his first brother, but Ace has made do, and he isn’t about to force someone to stick around if they don’t know him, don’t have any reason to care-
“I don’t have anywhere else I need to be right now.”

“Marco!” The Thatch of his dreams slammed his fist on the door again. Cruel, too cruel. Marco’s knuckles went white with how hard he was clutching the pillow, feeling the fabric tearing under his grip.
Another knock, obnoxiously loud. Marco wanted to scream. He wanted to scream and cry and tell him to get the fuck away, to just stop! He wanted it all to stop! He knew he’d fucked up! He knew it already! Why the hell did they have to keep tormenting him!? Sabo tried to summon back the blood he could feel draining from his face, already shaking his head. There was literally no reason for Portgas D. Ace to have ever laid eyes on Lastname-blank Middlename-blank Sabo. He didn’t have any sort of wanted poster with his likeness on it yet— if he did, he was sure Koala would have gotten ahold of him somehow to let him know, even if Sabo mostly ignored her calls if he didn’t suspect they might have booty in them. “No, I don’t think so. Probably just one of those top-hats.”
