Deadpool was following him, which was annoying, because he never seemed to have any problems getting over a fight, even when it was about a fundamental belief system. It was also annoying because Peter was hurting and sleepy and he had school tomorrow and he somehow had to figure out an excuse to explain his sorry state to his Aunt before morning. And he just watched Deadpool shoot people. So.
OR:
Instead of Tony being Peter's responsible-adult-figure, it ends up being Deadpool, who really means well but is a little late to the hey-this-is-a-teenager-who-needs-help party. Weird friendship ensues. -

Evan “Buck” Buckley fought for his family. He fought to get back to them and now that he’s back his family won’t even look at him without disdain anymore. Buck had dropped the lawsuit and his family won’t forgive him for suing them. Originally Buck thought it’d blow over but after 2 months he’s lost hope for things going back to normal. Then his call back to action from the Navy comes and he doesn’t fight it.
Aka: Buck is tired of fighting for the family that no longer wants him. Its set during the post Lawsuit era and its a story about of Buck was a Naval aviator and he gets called back for the suicide mission from Top Gun: Maverick.

And as Buck watched the red brake lights of his Jeep disappear into the distance, clutching his prescription of blood thinners tightly to his chest... there was really only one thing left to do. Tilting his head back until he was staring at the stars, he took a deep breath and screamed into the night:

With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.

That wasn’t necessarily true. They would all find their way back by dinner time at the latest. But it was true enough for the moment. Sorta like when someone promises forever but they only really have right now. Because sometimes forever means the same thing as right now and sometimes “however long you need” is the same as “however long I can give you”.

Summary
Evan “Buck” Buckley was not an honest person as much as he would like to be or even was trying to be in his own way. His dishonesty wasn’t malicious in the slightest though. He had his reasons, of course, but his entire identity was built on a shaky Jenga tower of lies. As much as he built it up, one by one the blocks were still removed over the years making the tower less and less stable.
Buck joined the 118 fresh out of the Navy and braced himself for all the questions that were about to come his way which he did not want to answer. Then, like a gift from above, somehow and shockingly, no one had read his resume, and he found he could start all over again, be a new person, someone completely different or maybe who he was supposed to be all along.
