And that kind of honesty and vulnerability was frankly terrifying – something Aventurine had no idea how to reciprocate properly.

"Oh," he did his best to sound natural and unbothered. "And who might that representative be?"
While Topaz would never pass up an opportunity to tease and one-up Aventurine, surely this was off limits. There was no way she would have picked Ratio, right?
Topaz giggled a little bit. Oh, she was enjoying this. "Oh, no one,” she said in a sing-song voice. “Just your favourite little situationship who you've been ghosting."
It appeared this was not, in fact, off limits.

Ratio nodded. “Yes,” he said.
“... Why?”
“Because you can’t take care of yourself,” Ratio said. “And I have enough time on my hands to endeavor to do so.”
“You want to teach me how to take care of myself?” Aventurine said. He was starting to sound like a parrot. Ratio gave him an empty stare.
“That is, in fact, what I said,” Ratio sighed, exasperated. Had Aventurine annoyed him? Whatever, that didn’t matter. If he had, then that was better: Ratio would finally leave him alone.
“Are you sure?” Aventurine asked.
Ratio’s face was slightly pink. Was it hot in here? “Yes, gambler, I am sure. How many times do I have to repeat myself?!”
“No more,” Aventurine said hurriedly, holding up his hands placatingly. “I understand now. Well, I don’t understand why, but I understand that you’re serious. Confusingly.”

Following radio silence after Penacony, Aventurine gets a call from a medical station near an isolated planet about Ratio ending up in a lab accident. Concerned, Aventurine takes the trip to the station to find his beloved doctor wrapped up in bandages.
Ratio, however, doesn't seem as bothered. At least not at first. It's a struggle to adjust to being blind 24/7. And with that troublesome Jade's meddling, Aventurine is now temporarily living in his home to assist Ratio for the time being, It normally wouldn't be an issue, he doesn't mind the gamblers presence. What he does mind is his own feelings towards said gambler. Such proximity with Aventurine after so long apart, Ratio's hit with the fact that he missed Aventurine deeply.
Navigating his own feelings along with being blind is a troublesome combination when the person of Ratio's affections is so...elusive.
aka: ratio gets hit by an alien fungi's spores that leaves him blinded. now he has to deal with the consequences of having Aventurine as his emergency contact/caretaker while he works on finding a way to make artificial eyes that suit his specific wants because hes picky.

The blonde laughed breathily, pulling away from their embrace. “I’m asking for you to do that… if you wanted to,” Ratio’s eyes opened wide, finally putting the clues together.
“Doc, you don’t have to, it was just a suggestion if you were up to it. No hard feelings.” Aventurine assured, but Ratio’s hand gently cupped his cheek, stopping him in his thoughts. “I would like to be the one to teach you what it’s like to be cherished and taken care of. I want to show you what it’s like to not be afraid and to accept someone’s help and affection.”
