Summary
This is a reworking of my largest story to date, namely "Above and Beyond the Horizon." After several years on this platform, I have learned a lot, and I wanted to make that story easier to read. While I think that the bones of it were good, it needed a ruthless edit (and to have the tags and continuity fixed!). If you have read the original story, and would like to give feedback, I would be happy to hear from you. If you have not read that story, I think you should stick to this one, as it's about half the size!
In short, Mr. Darcy is rude to Charlotte instead of Elizabeth at the Netherfield ball. What he doesn't realise is that these two friends have had a falling out, and that Lizzie's reaction to his words make things a lot worse rather than better. Over the course of the story, it becomes clear that some long-overdue changes need to happen...and that some of our characters rise to the challenge of those changes much better than others do.

Summary
I have often wondered how this situation would play out if this movie had been more of a romance, and less of a goofball comedy.
There are several points at which either of these characters could have actually grasped the nettle, and actually talked to each other about how they were feeling. And in real life, if the attraction between them was that strong, I think it would have happened, and that Carrie would have taken the lead. She's clearly used to stating her opinions, and I don't think she'd put up with Charles's dithering for long.
So I have tried to think about what she would say after the second wedding if she had broken up with Hamish at that point, rather than going on to marry him a month later. The movie actually gets the continuity wrong on this - while the second wedding happens in April, when Charles and Carrie are talking at his wedding, Carrie states that "March was hell, by April it was all sorted".
As such, I'm thinking that this letter must have been written and sent some time between May and August, and in the earlier part of that period, before they would have bumped into each other at the bridal registry.

Summary
This story stems from a variation to canon. Instead of Charlotte Lucas engaging Mr. Collins in order to present herself as a potential wife, here she removes Mr. Collins from Longbourn to Lucas Lodge before Lizzie throws caution to the wind and murders him (so to speak).
Mr. Collins, having been rejected by Lizzie, then decides to propose to Charlotte, only for her to turn him down flat. She then decides to educate him as to why she said no. Not for her own sake, but so that he stops spouting such rubbish, and becomes a better man.
Collins himself finds that he is intrigued by her pointed questions, and so (with her father's permission), the two of them start a correspondence...
