“Have I been scent-marking Whitaker this whole time?” He said in lieu of a greeting. Jack Abbot was leaning on railings when he arrived, perfectly peaceful before Robby disturbed him so early in the morning with his crisis.
“Good morning to you too, brother.” Jack just raised an eyebrow at him,
“Jack,” he pleaded desperately. He didn’t know what came next no matter the answer.
“I thought you finally found the one,” Abbot shrugged, seemingly indifferent to the absurdity he implied.
Robby could only massage his forehead with both hands, groaning.

Robby realizes that he sort of just pulled that question out of thin air. That the last time they discussed it was hours and hours ago. But he's bored. And he's drunk. And he's curious. "The fuckin' no nut thing."
It's hard to tell in the dim park lights, but he thinks Whitaker is turning a very pretty shade of pink.
"Oh! Uh… is that really an appropriate thing to discuss with my boss?"

It was the least he could do after all the pain he’d caused. In a twisted way, it almost evened out.

Everyone from his hospital is either shaking ass or drinking like it's their last night on earth, with the exception of his boss, Robby, who in a moment of sober spontaneity, asks his subordinate to dance with him. What follows is a tense night of will they/won't they while trying to maintain composure and professionalism in front of the entire medical community of Pittsburgh.

Summary
Robby didn’t expect his life to shift during a routine shift in the ER. And he certainly didn’t expect Dennis Whitaker, brilliant, chaotic, quietly observant Dennis Whitaker, to become the one person he can’t stop thinking about.
What starts as small rides home, little touches and stolen glances between patients slowly turns into something neither of them knows how to define.
They try to keep it quiet. They try to keep it professional. They are, for the most part, failing spectacularly.

Summary
When Robby starts his rotation at the ED he thinks he knows what to expect. At M.S. 4, the last rotation he needs is emergency medicine, but having done his last one in the ICU he figures he’s bringing in good experience. Some would call that cocky. Bratty, even. Robby argues that it’s not cockiness he’s packing, but intelligence. Core knowledge on the internal workings of medicine. His evaluations clearly reflect that, so if he has a bit of an ego he argues it’s well deserved.
Robby brings this attitude with him on his first day at PTMC. He’s in nice scrubs, comfy shoes he’s broken in, and has his notepad ready for any questions. He holds himself with an air of confidence because he knows he’s able to handle this.
That quickly proves to be wishful thinking.
The senior attending, Dr. Dennis Whitaker, is an interesting man to say the least.

Dennis stills at that, giving him that same, blank look from before. Robby wants to shut his eyes. He never wants to see it again.
He tilts his head. “Accident?”
“You were—” Robby says, and doesn’t miss the desperation in his own voice. “I just told you. You were in an accident. Don’t you remember?”After an argument about Robby’s resignation from the Pitt, Dennis gets into a car crash that makes him unable to retain short-term memories. Including the fight they just had, and Robby’s imminent departure. It’s up to Robby to nurse him back to health, and choose which truth to tell him.
