Aziraphale shrugged. “I think it’s rather sweet. A kiss for good luck. Seems a nice way to start the year. Very human.”
Crowley nodded. “Can’t seem to keep their hands off each other, that lot. Always finding excuses. First it’s mistletoe at Christmas, then it’s luck for the New Year…”
“Well there’s no need to be so grouchy about it,” Aziraphale said. “I think it’s lovely.”
Crowley’s heart ached a little more as he watched Aziraphale smile up at the glowing numbers on the building above them.
Yeah, he thought, lovely.
Five times Crowley thought about kissing Aziraphale on New Year's Eve, and one time he did.

Why should I risk my neck and help him out when he clearly wouldn’t do the same for me!?"

Muriel said it so nonchalantly, as if it was so obvious…because it was.

Deep in the vaults of Heaven is the Penal Institution for Ungodly Behavior (AKA Heaven's prison system). Following Aziraphale's attempts to undermine The Second Coming, he has been stripped of the Supreme Archangel title and left to rot there for all eternity. That is unless Crowley and Muriel's plan to rescue him succeeds. It's a dangerous plan (bordering on idiotic, complete with a mysterious package, a science experiment gone wrong, and a little demonic possession), but if it means bringing his angel home, then Crowley is willing to burn all of Heaven to ashes.Series

“Mate, seriously. Every time you say something like that it makes me more sure that you’ll love it! Just watch one with me? Friday the 13th, it’s a classic!”
Of course, they’ve circled back to this. Edwin bites back a sigh.
“You’ve determined I will enjoy this film because I ask you to be careful?”
“Yes!” Charles grins, unchecked and a touch cheeky. “You love getting on people for ‘impetuous behaviour’ and that, don’t you? That’s like, the whole point of horror!”
Privately, Edwin isn’t certain that is the logical take away.
“I simply do not understand the appeal,” he says, again. “Surely, we have seen enough horror in our line of work. I can’t imagine I would find any of them particularly scary, after Hell.”
“It’s not like that,” Charles turns around to address Edwin straight on as he walks, cheerfully and infuriatingly, straight through a large rock in the middle of the corridor. “You’re not supposed to be scared for real. It’s just for fun, gives you adrenaline!”
“We do not have adrenaline.” Edwin sniffs. “We are dead.”The boys have a horror marathon that's a bit more full on than intended. Happy Halloween!

Summary
“Seems easy enough.” Charles can’t help but appreciate the potential of a simple case.
It’s been longer than either of them would admit, since they had anything close to an easy win, job well jobbed, et cetera. Everything since Port Townsend has felt heavy, with the weight of someone’s existence always hanging in the balance: hell and Esther Finch and Niko.
They could all use this, Charles thinks. A distraction, a boost. Anything, really, to get Edwin out of the office and away from the things putting shadows under his eyes. Here, at least, it might be something Charles can hit.
A new case and recurring thoughts about Edwin's collarbones remind Charles of the past. Aka, Charles Rowland's bisexual awakening, repression, and subsequent reawakening.

When Aziraphale decided to take a chance on a local theatre group known for its queer friendly productions, he only wanted an opportunity to get back into acting. Something easy and low stress that would give him a chance to relive his nearly forgotten glory days doing university theatre and maybe meet some new people while he was at it. He certainly didn't expect to be given the main role opposite one of the most insufferable men he'd ever had the misfortune to meet. Nor did he expect to be captivated by a mysterious redhead who always seemed to be just out of reach.
Or, Aziraphale is an actor out of practice at falling in love, and Crowley is a set designer who can't seem to get up the courage to speak to him.

The idea is so horrifying that it stuns Charles into silence for a couple seconds. “I didn’t know that. Why didn’t I know that?”
Edwin’s shoulders tense. “The whole thing is bloody tragic enough as it is.”
Grabbing his wrist, Charles begins marching them back in the direction of the pond they used to get here.
Edwin doesn’t resist, but he does argue, because of course he does. “Charles, where are we going?”
“St. Hilarion’s. We’ve got a new case, don’t we?”

“Why did you come here?” Aziraphale interrupts. “Why do you keep doing this?” All the saving, he means, all the chasing after Aziraphale he does. It can’t only be that he’s not keen to endure a replacement. That can’t be it, not anymore. He’s going to get himself in trouble, and then it’ll be Aziraphale’s fault.
Crowley’s mouth shuts with a click. He shifts uncomfortably in his seat, reaches for the handle of the fork and taps his fingertips against it before setting his hands in his lap.
When he speaks, it’s very soft. “Don’t you know?” he asks.
Aziraphale, unnaccustomed to his heart refusing to translate why it throbs with such haste, shakes his head.
