If you need to believe in Batman, if you need Bruce to be a good father, if you need to roll around in your shame about not being honest with Daddy about all the awesome sex you're having with the most problematic of Daddy's problem children—I mean, sure, whatever gets you off, right?"
Dick Grayson navigates the line between fantasy and reality, tries to be a better man, has increasingly kinky sex with his pseudo-sister, and refuses to have a crisis about any of it. Jay's taking everything in stride, so why shouldn't Dick learn to accept a little volatility in his civilian life? It's only as Nightwing that he has to care about control.

Finnick had helped Nick execute a lot of plans over the years. Most of them were good, excellent even. But sometimes Nick’s creativity pulled him in wildly bizarre directions.
Finnick really liked Nick, for a lot of reasons that weren’t just about whatever brilliant or bizarre plan he’d come up with on any given day. So he always went where Nick called him. Either he would be able to stop Nick from carrying out a dangerously stupid plan, or he would get to be there to watch when Nick’s ridiculously stupid plan failed spectacularly.

Long before Judy walked into that ice cream shop, Nick met another mammal who would change the course of his life.
Finnick shrugged. “I don’t see a lot of foxes in here, that’s all.”
Nick actually had noticed this morning that he was the only fox, but he was aware of that almost everywhere he went. His species, like most foxes, tended to stick together in the Meadowlands, since other mammals in Zootopia weren’t exactly welcoming to them. But Nick had never been one for togetherness. He did know a lot of mammals—it was a matter of survival, after all—but that was mostly surface level. It had become second nature, being alone in the crowd.
“I bet,” Nick said.
“It’s nice, you know?” Finnick gave him a small, wry smile. “Not being the only one.”
