Edward could act on his own, make sure he gets Batman and everyone's attention in one big, unavoidable spectacle.
Or, he realizes, he could follow the pattern.
Batman did come to him once, months ago, to rescue a woman from the street. If he's going to meet Batman, all Edward needs is to be someone in need of rescue. Only then will Batman listen to him.
