Saving the world does not negate the hundred lives he took and the two hundred he conspired to kill.
Being an invaluable member of the Armed Detective Agency and killer of Fyodor Dostoevsky does not save him from the death penalty.
The crimes unveiled by the Hunting Dogs do not simply disappear. They stay, and Dazai Osamu is convicted in court of one hundred and thirty-eight murders, three hundred and twelve counts of extortion, and six hundred and twenty-five cases of fraud.

A sight for sore eyes — like something straight out of Dazai’s dreams. He actually wouldn’t mind waking up to the sight of this every morning.
Dazai freezes as the thought registers in his mind fully. The look on his face must be incredulous, because the smile melts off of Chuuya’s lips and his eyebrows furrow instead. “What?”
Dazai clears his throat. “Nothing! I was just thinking about how I shouldn’t be here and that I should definitely go."
Dazai Osamu swears that Nakahara Chuuya is only his friend-with-benefits, until he accidentally stays the night and wakes up to the breathtaking sight of Chuuya in the morning, and all of a sudden Chuuya is more than just his fuck buddy.

Always ravenous, always greedy. More ready to ask for forgiveness than permission. The hands dip down far enough that their fingertips breach the water, and that is when Chuuya decides he’s had enough. With a quick flick of his wrist, he sends a spray of water back over his shoulder, hitting the newcomer directly in the face.
The hands retreat immediately, an offended squawk sounding behind him.
“Chuuya!”
Like a child being denied its favorite toy.
Chuuya doesn’t even open his eyes.
“Hands to yourself, shitty thief.”

It was in worse condition than the other one — it even had new wounds on it—, probably because Dazai was right-handed.
Chuuya covered and let go of Dazai’s arms. “Give me your knife,” he ordered, holding one hand up expectantly. “Don’t even try,” he interrupted when he saw the other open his mouth to deny he had such a thing with him.
The brunet reluctantly took the knife out of his coat and handed it to him.
“Thanks. Now give me mine back, too.”
