Unsettled, Lila shuffles closer to her mom. Mom isn't really talking to anyone else right now either, instead standing still and removed from the rest of the cluster now that they've mostly finished eating, watching. She hides her face into the fur behind Mom's shoulder and presses in, trying to make the pressure push back all of the anxiety crawling under her skin like little mites. Mom stays still under the weight of Lila shoving against her, readjusts only enough to curl around her a little more, and Lila feels it when Mom turns to scent carefully at the top of Lila's head.
"Lila," Mom says, soft against her ear. "You alright, sweetie?"

In his head, Jon keeps a list of all the things he likes about Daisy’s safehouse. Sometimes, the list is all that’s keeping him sane. Every time something happens that threatens to drive him up the wall, he pulls out his little mental list, and goes through it item by item, and suddenly the bad things don’t seem very bad at all.
There’s the scenery, for one. There’s the old-fashioned design of the cottage, sometimes annoying but mostly just charming.
And then, of course, there’s Martin.
Jon and Martin get settled in Scotland, and settle into their relationship in the process.

There are nights when Sean wakes up if Marion so much as rolls over in his sleep. Hell, there are nights when Sean would be awake long before Marion starts mumbling half phrases and nonsense words, before his fingers start twitching or his feet kick restlessly under the covers. But there are also nights like this one, when all his hyper-vigilance leaves him exhausted, when his face is worn out from smiling, (because he’s fine, honest, everything is fine) when the blankets are warm and the rain on the roof is as good as a lullaby. So when he feels Marion get out of bed, Sean just rolls over and falls back into the darkness behind his eyes. Not everything is a crisis. Marion is probably just taking a piss or making a cup of tea and when Sean opens his eyes again, it’ll be morning and Marion will be back in bed, all tucked in and safe under the covers.
When Sean opens his eyes again, the bedroom is still dark and Marion’s side of the bed is as cold as trench mud.

The migraines started in middle school. The first one left her vomiting in the school nurse's office with her jacket covering her eyes to block out the fluorescent lighting. At first, Fig didn't understand the look on her mother's face whenever she would need to come pick her up early from school or when she begged to stay home for the day. It only made sense after the first tips of her horns poked through her skin. After that, the migraines were the least of Fig's problems. It's hard for her to forget, though, on days when she wakes up feeling like she's been hit over the head with Gorgug's axe.

Marion gasps awake, disoriented and dizzy as he half falls out of bed, the bleed flower mark on his chest pulsing like a heartbeat. Part of him dimly notes that he fell asleep with his shoes on, that the apartment is still dark, no hint of light against the curtains. Then he’s stumbling toward the door, grabbing his old army pack on the way, settling the familiar weight on his shoulders because— you always make sure your gear is ready to go you never know when you have to move— and then he’s out the door, pounding down the stairs and out into the night, the hum of electrical wires loud overhead.
It would take the better part of an hour to fetch Jean and bring her back here, might take even longer for Marion to find anyone else. It’s a twenty minute leisurely stroll to reach Sean’s apartment, he doesn’t know how fast he can get there in a run. With every footfall, every breath, every heartbeat, a question echoes. Was it just a nightmare or a premonition?
