The Mojave Wasteland holds many memories for Ruby- the fiery Courier Six, who sided with Caesar's Legion, got a little too close to its leader, and was heartbroken when he died. She then led her beloved Legion to their demise at the second battle of Hoover Dam, and was one of just a handful to make it out alive.

There are many pitfalls that beset humankind, the most insidious of which is love.
Where last we left them, Caesar was under Arcade Gannon's knife while Ruby/Juliet awaited news of what had happened in that tent. And, while things seem fine initially, they soon take a turn for the worse, as love stories often do.
(This probably won't make much sense if you haven't read the first half; you don't have to, but I hope you will, because this is now my favourite ship of all time and I've had so much fun helping these two wastes of space find each other!)

This story follows the events in chapter 5 of Strange Things Did Happen Here, and the title is a line from Oceans by Evanescence.

Summary
Years ago, MacCready was supposed to go to Spectacle Island with his new family. But Deacon stole that future from him and, completely blindsided by Von's betrayal, he returned to the Capital Wasteland, to repair his broken heart. Instead, he became a suicidal, chem-addicted alcoholic, and his relationship with his son has all but deteriorated.
Now a grown man of eighteen, Duncan resents his father. Not only is he sick of being the parent figure, but he can't remember a time when his dad actually loved him. When a hooded figure appears at the inn they now call home, he finally has a chance to get the answers he's been searching for... but is he ready to hear the truth?

I went down the Youtube rabbithole, and found a gorgeous song of the same name that inspired this little story~ definitely give it a listen, if you have a chance.
(TW: though it's never been stated outright in any of my works, it's heavily implied that Von is suicidal or struggles with suicidal thoughts at various points, so I decided to explore that part of her character. If you are triggered by these sorts of things, please make sure that you are completely safe before you proceed.)
