Summary
It’s one of those things—words, phrases, insults, sometimes even compliments—that sticks with Trinity, even though it shouldn’t. Lodges itself somewhere in the gaps of her ribcage, so with each step she can feel it there under skin, flesh and digging through bone. It grooves into the recesses of her mind, it gets caught in her throat, she can taste those words just on the tip of her tongue and she really fucking hates it.
Much like everything else her stupid brain clings to (it’s a trauma response, she knows that, she’s a doctor, but calling her brain stupid is easier than really facing the problem) it sticks.
Trouble, trouble, trouble.

“And Googling me was the best way to do that, right?” She says sarcastically, one of her legs is shaking now, the chair rattling beneath her. She feels like a cornered animal.
Langdon shakes his head, “In my defense, I wasn’t looking for what I found.”
Trinity swallows dryly, “So, what? What do you want me to say?”Langdon looks at her carefully, “Well, I was hoping you would tell me that the headlines were taking things out of context. That you didn’t break your ankle on purpose, and your coach wasn’t… what he was, and that your friend didn’t kill herself because of the sport,” He sighs, “But, I think your reaction answers that,” He presses his lips together and smiles sympathetically.
Trinity keeps her eyes on the computer, “Put your daughter in soccer.” And with that, she pushes her chair out and turns to walk away from this conversation.
—or: Trinity learned a long time ago that secrets are safer than people. Unfortunately, the internet doesn’t agree.

“Are you two, um, dating?” Javadi’s eyes were wide, glancing between Trinity and Whitaker.
“What?” She stared at Javadi, trying to figure out if maybe the other woman had finally grown a backbone and decided to start fucking with Trinity.
“Well, the two of you always come in together and you leave together and you bicker all the time…” Javadi trailed off, glancing between them.
Unable to stop herself, Trinity began laughing. Cackling, really. A loud, snorting laugh that she hadn’t heard from herself in ages.
“It’s not that funny,” Whitaker said with a long-suffering look on his sad little face.
“I’m a lesbian, crash. That’s why it’s funny. He’s my roommate. My very platonic roommate.”
“You haven’t noticed her whole thing with Doctor Garcia?” Whitaker said, clear retribution for Trinity’s laughing spell. “Everyone’s been talking about it.”

“Are you sure that you want to do this?” Yolanda asked as they took their shoes off by the door. “You’ve been quiet since I suggested it.”
“I’m sure,” Trinity said, because despite her nerves, the thought of being the one to take Yolanda apart for a change was intoxicating. “I was just surprised since usually you like to be the one in charge.”
Yolanda raised her brows, “Who said you’re going to be in charge? I just asked you to wear the strap.”

"Why don't you go shower while I get dinner started?"
Trinity's mouth opens and for a brief second, nothing comes out. It's not that she doesn't have words. She has too many words, stacked in her throat like plates she's afraid to drop—a series of things she would love to vomit at Yolanda's feet, purging them from her body so that she doesn't have to carry them around anymore. But that's not what she asked. Trinity swallows hard, choking down her desire to be difficult. Now is not the time for complaints. Instead, she forces a weary smile, and hedges, "You don't have to do that."

"Hey." Yolanda reaches out, lightly catching her elbow to stop her from working. "Seriously. Did I do something? Because if I did, I'd really prefer yelling over the silent treatment."
Trinity's mouth is suddenly desperately dry. "No, god, no. It's not— you didn't do anything."
"Then what is it?" Yolanda presses. There's a crease between her brows that Trinity feels bad for being the one to put it there. "We both finally have a couple of days off after today. I was kind of hoping I'd get to see my girlfriend somewhere that isn't work."

“How would you feel about me getting the strap out?” Yolanda asked between pressing kisses to Trinity’s neck.
“You have a strap?” Trinity’s mind raced with the different scenarios that statement could lead to.
Yolanda’s lips continued traveling up the line of Trinity’s neck, “I do. And I would really like to fuck you with it.”
Trinity’s mind went blank with a combination of shock and heady arousal, “You want to fuck me with it?” She blinked, trying to process the suggestion. It felt too lame to say out loud, but she really, really liked the idea that Yolanda would be her first for something. For this. The thought made her heart race with just how badly she wanted to give this piece of herself to Yolanda.
Trinity learns to let herself be taken care of.

Summary
Trinity gives herself a second on the final landing, fingers gripping the railing hard enough that the metal leaves a faint red impression in her palm when she pulls away. She takes a steadying breath in through her nose, out through her mouth. Then, she scrapes together her usual mask as she makes her way over to Yolanda's front door, pushes her shoulders back, and knocks.
Yolanda opens the door with a grin that hits Trinity hard in the soft, vulnerable center of her chest. "Hi, baby," she greets, warm and bright and so fucking happy to see her that Trinity feels it like sunlight on her face after a twelve-hour shift, even though it’s well past dusk.
