A prayer to not starve her people, a prayer to let her forest survive, her hometree to stay strong. But Eywa never came. Ewya let her parents die. Instead of dying in the bruning fire, Varang survived the days in it. While she couldn’t say how, it must have had something to do with her walking in alone and walking out pregnant. Without harm.
That's when Varang and the ones that survived knew; Fire was the only pure thing. Eywa a weakness.
