“Kaeya holds the back of their clasped hands to his chest and finds Diluc’s gaze. “I promise I’ll be back for you. I promise. And you have to promise me you’ll stay alive until then, okay?”
Diluc’s lips press into a thin line.
Kaeya’s lip wobbles. “Please, Diluc. Promise me.”
It feels like yet another shackle around Diluc’s wrist – barring him from the mercy of the easy way out, should he need it – but the clock’s ticking, and Diluc refuses to let Kaeya get caught, so he forces himself to nod. “Okay, I promise. Now get the hell out of here.”

OR: When Il Dottore finally gets his hands on Diluc, Diluc doesn't think it can get any worse... until he sees Kaeya laying on the floor of Dottore's lab.
Will the brothers be able to escape? Or will Dottore grow bored of his experiments and send Diluc to an early grave? Can promises made be promises kept?

Day 6 - Unhealthy coping mechanisms---
The Delusion had not been kind to Diluc's body.
It had caused nothing but destruction and death the three years he used it, and even when he stopped, it had left its mark. It had burned scars on his left arm and given him muscle spasms. It caused paranoia and panic attacks. As the Winery demanded more of him and his need to protect the city grew stronger, he became increasingly exhausted. The panic attacks went from once every other week to once every other day, and he was constantly distracted or on edge, unable to get work done. Adelinde noticed and forced him to see a psychiatrist and he was prescribed with medication to help.
He becomes reliant on it and runs out of it faster than he thought he would, leading to him having a panic attack at Angel's Share with no medicine to help him.

'When Alhaitham creaked open Kaveh’s bedroom door, his heart sank. Kaveh clearly had a fever, one that had gotten worse since the early morning. His skin appeared flushed, and his hair was sticking to his forehead. Despite that, Kaveh had the blankets pulled up to his chin; he was probably cold, but it wasn't helping the situation at all.
“Kaveh? How are you feeling?” Alhaitham called out softly, taking tentative steps toward the bed.
Kaveh groaned softly and shook his head. “I’m so cold, but… I also feel warm. I also feel a bit nauseous, too. Ugh, didn’t I take medicine for the fever earlier? How do I still feel so terrible?”'

Summary
In a turn of events that has shocked exactly no one, Kaveh’s sleep schedule has once again taken a turn for the worse.
In his defense, it’s quite simply that time of the year. Midterms have passed, and finals loom on the horizon, but this is the deadly lull known as project season. Many students far wiser and more studious than him have fallen victim to a project too grandiose, or an idea that cannot possibly become reality in such a short amount of time. It’s a common horror story, meant to scare the students into doing something manageable yet showstopping.
(Because clearly the two go together.)

Summary
Late at night, when he's drifting off to sleep, Alhaitham sometimes wonders what Grandmother would think.
She never knew of his Eleazar. During her final months, he came down with a fever. He saw a doctor not because he felt all that unwell, but because he was her sole caregiver and he didn't want to give her an infection.
The diagnosis shocked him, but it made sense in hindsight. The muscle aches and tremors that he had chalked up to stress then painted a different picture. And over the coming weeks, a patch of skin on his chest developed the signature scaling.
There was no point in telling Grandmother. It would have distressed her greatly, and there was nothing she could have done to change anything. She died as peacefully as it is possible to die, as she deserved, and he mourned her and the future he'd imagined for himself.

Kaveh, standing in the doorway of what was once their home, staring at the wall with glistening eyes as he tells Alhaitham farewell for the last time. It was the first word Kaveh had said to Alhaitham in days, and it would be the last for many to come.
