Relief sagged Leo’s shoulders. “That’s a yes, baby!” He grinned, and then called through cupped hands, “Hey, don’t freak out, I promise we’re cool.”
The figure was shifting, breath strained and rasping out the throat as they pushed themself up onto their side. First aid courses he'd taken while hiding in the ceiling suggested that was a good sign – noise and movement meant conscious and breathing. As Leo trotted closer, they got their knees underneath themself, their head lifting at his approach.
His eyes met smooth, black glass.

At the ripe age of five, Donatello had messed up. He messed up big time.
He’d made a gift for one of his three brothers. Not unusual. That gift had malfunctioned, been wrong, or simply ill-received. Also not unusual. But he’d been upset. Unusually upset.
He’d written an apology note, left it on his bed, and disappeared. He’d intended to come back after he’d learned what he was doing wrong. Why his many inventions and gifts weren’t good enough. He really had intended to come back eleven years ago.
Until he’d found his way to Big Mama, who had thought his inventions were good enough. She’d told him his gifts weren’t the problem, he was. Donatello wasn’t made to be loved, she’d said. But he was made to be useful. To be appreciated. That’s what he recalled of that day.
But Donnie can’t really remember anything from back. Though he never dwells on that. He has no reason to.

Donatello Hamato lived a hard life, he lost many things- His father, his childhood innocence, his close bond with his siblings and most of all...his sanity. He is now a mere husk of the turtle he once, with a slipping mind and a broken thread of everything he used to be. He is fine though, he promises.
The universe however doesn't believe him when he says so, so it chooses to send him back in time. Donatello doesn't complain, he takes his chance to make the lives of his family better. He chooses not to let them down.
Little does he know just how much his past life's trauma will bleed through....and how much he underestimated his family's love for him.
TL:DR- Donnie is thrown back in time without giving his consent, still he takes the chance to fix things but oops! He's mentally unstable and that scares the shit outta his brothers lol
