“Great Expectations, my favorite book,” a voice nearby said, cheerfully.
Izzy looked up from the book, startled, and he found himself facing something even more confusing than that. It was a blond man, in a bright red shirt, smiling broadly at him.OR: Stede was excited to meet his blind date that night, but he was so late! It was a relief that the handsome stranger was waiting for him at their meeting point when he finally got there, even if he looked a bit angry about him being late.

Summary
Izzy felt a bit stupid for being so needy, but he was feverish and tired and the additional headache wasn’t helping either. All he knew was that there were two blue ticks next to the message he had sent to Stede (“Feeling like shit today, fucking flu. Will have an early night and sleep it off.”), but the man hadn’t bothered answering yet. Maybe Stede didn’t think an answer was needed. Maybe he had simply read the message, shrugged and carried on with his life. It wasn’t as if he owed Izzy anything.
Or: Izzy is sick and feeling miserable and there is stuff that's making him doubt his relationship with Stede. Short and fluffy fic, just because.

The words escaped Stede’s lips without warning and even though he tried to act as if nothing had happened, Izzy’s reaction was immediate. The man went still for a moment and then, to Stede’s horror, he chuckled as if amused.Or: what if Stede said the big three words and Izzy laughed at him? Stede is heartbroken because he thinks Izzy doesn't feel the same and meanwhile Izzy is hurt because he thinks Stede is just joking. The usual with these two idiots.

Summary
It had finally happened, Edward was back and Izzy was not needed anymore, if he ever was. There was no point on pretending otherwise.
It was clear he had been a temporary fix for Stede’s loneliness, and surely the man hadn’t meant everything he had said in the heat of the moment. Stede had always been very friendly with every member of the crew after all, the sweet nothings he had said to Izzy had probably simply escaped his mouth because they were the polite thing to say to your lover in bed.
OR: Stede and Izzy get together after Edward leaves to be a fisherman and just when Izzy is getting used to softness and love, Edward comes back.

The thing was, Izzy had wanted to say them back for a while, but every time he opened his mouth to do it a memory sharp as a knife would stop the words from leaving his mouth.
‘I have… love for you, Edward.’
He remembered very clearly how painful it had been to finally utter those words and how much pain had come after that.
OR: Stede has already told him he loves him, but Izzy can't get himself to say those words back even when he really wants to.

Like furniture, Izzy’s mind suggested immediately. Like an old couch that you really should throw away, but you don’t because it’s comfy and you can still use it a bit longer.Or: Izzy finally realizes that his marriage with Edward is dying. He might not get out of it empty-handed, though, if Stede has anything to say about it.
