Maybe she had even conspired with their landlord to not fix the heating in their decrepit building, forcing them to find other places to hunker down so as to not freeze to death. It certainly was a pointed choice for her to stay at Garcia's, knowing he wouldn’t want to go with, and thus leaving him with limited options of where to seek shelter from the ice and snow.
