Summary
When Grant emerges from the trees about a hundred feet downstream from them, they silently turn to watch him. His sweatshirt hangs off of his thinning frame in a way that almost swallows him whole when his shoulders hunch up to his chin and start shaking. Through the darkness, Nick and Terry can’t see his face well, but the sounds of crickets and rushing water cannot mask the sniffling, heaving breaths coming from Grant.
Oh. Nick and Terry realize at once. He’s crying.
But that’s where their thought patterns diverge. Because while Terry is ready to silently creep away and give Grant a wide radius of space, Nick already has his hands up and shouts, “Hey! Grant!”

The most confusing part was that Coach Darnell looked like a normal adult, almost like Grant’s dad, but leaner and taller and darker in complexion. He wore the same ball cap and the same silver whistle around his neck.
Only then did Grant really take note of the wedding band on his left hand, glinting silver in the sun. Grant squinted into its bright light.

Summary
Anne sees her everywhere. In her reflections, out of the corner of her eye. Her own ghost is haunting her, slowly driving her insane. Because she is proof that Anne is just a copy, and her destiny is to (probably) become a goddess. All while missing her home and family forever out of reach.
But she's fine! Totally! She's so fine! She doesn't need to talk to anyone or worry them, not when she is the only one who is struggling. She can't hold Sasha and Marcy down.
But perhaps she can find happiness elsewhere.

Sasha is silent for a moment, the radio silence between them taking up space. Sasha pulls away from the embrace, her hands lingering on Marcy for a moment longer and her fingertips brush Marcy's, the sensation leaving a searing ache that leaves Marcy yearning for more. Marcy gravitates towards Sasha the same way the moon is inclined towards the sun, but she doesn't reach out for Sasha, no matter how much she wants to.

Fighting against make-believe monsters and wannabe bullies, it was Sasha Anne Marcy till the end of time. Marcy knows her girls would show up, time and time again because they were loyal like that.
Forever and a day, she thinks fondly. I'll stay.
And somewhere between comfortable silence and the idea of being in love, Marcy's fears melt away like a popsicle in the summer sun.

His own resolve seemed to break in that moment. "I don't know" he murmured.
Anne sobbed, a cry ripped from her throat. Sasha shushed her, held her against his chest, ran his hand through her hair. She was inconsolable.
"I'm sorry" he whispered, but it didn't make it through her sobs.

“I’m a creature of habit, you know. You’re getting me too used to you.”
Sasha’s voice cracks halfway through her reply. She can’t bring herself to feel ashamed about it. “Is that a bad thing?”
“Not bad. Inconvenient.” She lies back on Sasha’s chest, ear right over her heart - and Sasha begs for it to slow down, for Marcy not to hear it. “I’m just really going to miss this.”
So Sasha feels anything but selfish, feels justified, when she pipes up and says:
“Well, you don’t have to leave.”Or: Sasha and Marcy move in together and have to deal with their longstanding feelings for Anne, along with newfound feelings for each other.

“I wanna head out. Once we’re done with school,” Lake said, their voice that tone that Jesse knew pretty well by now. It was the one that was supposed to be casual, but was only used on things they’d been thinking about for a long time. Important things.
“Oh,” he said, trying not to sound twisted up, trying not to wear his heart on his sleeve for once in his life, because this was something he should have always seen coming. It was the whole reason Lake had fought so hard to escape the train, so that they could be free. Instead, he forced his tone to be light as he asked, “where you wanna go?”
“Anywhere. Everywhere? It doesn’t matter, I just want to see as much of it as possible,” Lake said, a wistful tone to their voice.
Lake plans for the future.
