Summary
Will takes a moment, hands clenched into fists at his sides, to rest his head against the grain of the wood and close his eyes. Here, with the solid weight of the door to ground him, he evaluates the facts: the war is over, Vecna dead and gone for good this time. Max is awake, reunited with Lucas and El at last, who both rushed to return to their places at her bedside the moment they knew. The rest of his family is upstairs, the rest of his friends alongside them, alive and mostly well and rejoicing in the fact that a years-long nightmare has finally reached its conclusion. It’s a night for togetherness, for celebrating hard-earned victories, for finally looking ahead instead of back over their shoulders.
It’s also a night where Will almost killed Mike.
In the midst of their final stand against Vecna, a possessed Will nearly strangles Mike to death. In the basement bathroom of the Wheeler's house after their victory, Mike and Will confront the aftermath.

Summary
What would happen if Will Byers was never found during the events of Stranger Things season 1? How would he survive the upside down? How would the people of Hawkins react?
Will breathed in a ragged breath. Black smoke poured from his mouth as he tore himself free from the wall. He collapsed forward, coughing and gasping on the cold, moist floor.
His heart pounded in his ears as he shakily scrambled to his feet. Eyes darting around the abyss, he started to run. And he ran, and ran, and ran.
His feet pounded on the ground when suddenly he found himself on a familiar path. Finally, something familiar. Will sprinted through the woods, as a feeling of hope filtered its way through the panic. He was getting there, he was gonna be safe, it was finally within reach.

The pain in his chest and legs screamed at him to rest, but he couldn't risk stopping. He pushed himself further, calves aching with each step. Suddenly, a loud screech echoed through the air from somewhere up ahead.

Season 5 rewrite (byler, henderhop, steddie) where Will has a gun, Mike becomes a vampire, and the dead are brought back to life to be kissed. Vecna has also decided to play a horrifyingly real game of D&D.
“Hey, look, I’m on my knees, and I’m asking, El, please, I’m asking you, tell me what’s wrong.”
Her fingers are claws, and she stretches them forcefully so they are straight. She will not be upset. There are words she can say to make him stop talking. There are things she can do.
1. Throw him across the room with her mind.
2. Show him Will’s sketch-paper.
3. Ask why Strahd has a boyfriend.
These are all stabby things that will stab Mike. So she says, “I like Dustin. I kissed him, and I like him better.”

Will.
Mike slides his hand into Will’s.
Warm. Solid. Real.
The world doesn’t end. No lightning strikes. No adult voice booms “inappropriate” from the sky.
It’s just two grown boys — two men, almost — holding hands in an empty playground, the same way they did before they knew there were rules against it.
He squeezes.
Will squeezes back.
“See?” Will says softly. “Perfectly appropriate.”
Mike laughs, a little broken around the edges, and lets himself lean in until their shoulders touch.
They sit back down on the teeter-totter, still holding hands this time.
Up. Down. Up.
“What now?” Mike asks eventually.
Will rests their joined hands on his knee, thumb tracing small circles on Mike’s skin. “Now we enjoy this perfect summer and then go back to Boston,” he says. “You annoy your professors. I stress over canvases. And then one day — if you’d still have me — we find a place with terrible plumbing and a decent view. We… live.”
Mike freezes for half a second.
Not because it scares him — because it doesn’t. Because the idea lands in him so cleanly, so naturally, it’s almost absurd that Will would even doubt it.
If I’d still have him.
As if there’s any version of the future where Mike lets go of him willingly.
He squeezes Will’s hand, a little tighter than before, thumb brushing back in the same slow circle — an answer before words.
“Revolutionary concept,” Mike says, voice warm, certain. “Living.”
Will smiles sideways. “I heard it’s the new normal.”

Summary
Mike is no stranger to a little moral ambiguity, and mind reading is far more harmless than burying a body without telling anyone. So he dives in. Will smiles at him, and Mike prompts his brain to figure out why.
He finds nothing.
This is… odd.
OR
Mike gets telepathic powers randomly, three years after Vecna’s defeat. He tunes into people’s thoughts, expecting every guy’s mind to be like his. When he finds surprisingly few gay thoughts about best friends, he’s forced to re-evaluate and see if maybe it’s just him? (it is.)
It doesn’t help that the one mind he wants to read the most seems to be set to a different frequency entirely.
