When he finally manages to make himself open it, when he finally manages to make himself read it, his first impulse is to scrunch it up and fling it at the wall as hard as possible. He falls to that first impulse. He scrunches it up. He throws it at the far wall, which isn’t all that far, as the room is arguably pretty tiny, and all that happened is that it bounces off and skitters back across the scratched boards to come to a stop against his right foot.
