This was the first fanfiction I ever read, and it was on a different platform that I discovered it, but it stands as one of the best stories I've ever read. Maybe that's just sentimentality speaking, but I truly enjoy every reread, so it was lovely to find it here on AO3.

Summary
An icy blue gaze looked up at him, challenging him with all the rage someone under five foot two could muster. The child glared up at his caretaker, his chest heavy with angry breath before he flinched – just a little. His glare didn’t falter immediately, but within moments Kurapika saw the boy’s chest begin to heave, and that was all the warning given before Killua clambered to the left, threw open the lid of the toilet and immediately vomited noisily into the bowl.
Or, Kurapika has to take care of a sick, traumatized Killua while Leorio is out. He doesn't really know what he's doing, but he's trying his best.
Killua has too much pain for a child of his size.
Gon has a hotwheels ambulance. -

“Don’t think about it too much,” Kurapika advises.
“I’m about as good at that as you are,” Leorio says, which is to say that neither of them are any good at it at all. “Are you sure you should be saying that to the guy who could potentially ruin your day every time you look in the mirror for the next month?”
The last part is a lie, if only because Kurapika is the type of person that looks good in everything.
“It’s you,” Kurapika says, “and it’s only hair.”

“I didn’t expect you to be awake,” Kurapika says as a greeting, as if there’s anything normal about this situation at all.
“Neither did I,” Leorio says dimly, through the overwhelm, and invites him in.
Kurapika comes back to say his goodbyes.

Summary
Instead of being born 1899, Edward was born in 1892. He and his brother perform the ultimate taboo -human transmutation- in 1904. Captured by Furher Bradley before the year is out, Edward has become the government's puppet. Now it is 1908 and Order 3066 has been issued, allowing State Alchemists to be sent in to the war fronts as an effort to end the seven year war. With it, Edward is given a chance to oust the homonculi, ruin their and Father's plans, and save his little brother from them.
